There's some things the Bible says about creation, but there's a lot of things it doesn't. I'm a Christian but I get annoyed when people (other Christians, creationists) try to fill in the gaps with assumptions about what God did or didn't do. You don't know what God did or didn't do outside of what the Bible says (if you're a believer). It's maddening to me, to hear Christians and scientists argue on this point, because Christian faith does not require you to make assumptions or even try to figure those parts out at all. Basically all a Christian needs to know is God created everything. If you listen to science as well and see that evolution is based on a lot of good research, rejecting it is illogical... if God created the universe, the Earth, and you, he probably had the wherewithal to create evolution. I'll reiterate, there's a LOT of things the Bible doesn't expound on as far as the beginning. If you want to get technical, God created animals before he created man... make of that what you will. And there's a lot of Christian experts who think the story of Adam and Eve is more metaphor than history.
TBH, I didn't read your posts...bright maroon wrote:kingghost I hope you weren't offended...
I'm pretty solidly an agnostic..
There are lot of completely unexplainable things happening in my life that qualify as supernatural..
I just like to play devils advocate to keep my own mind open..and others
But the Bible itself was written by man, even the most devout of Christians understand that. It was not written by God, it was not written by Jesus, it was written by men. I think it's foolish to say that what is in the bible is 100% the voice of God and what God did because as we all know man will distort even the most profound of truths to fit their agenda. We don't really know what God did either way, because there's no way to see it without seeing it through the lens of the men who wrote it. The only way to know "God" is to experience it, just like someone previously said how you don't know something by doing research on it, you can only truly know it by experiencing it. you might've been an atheist at some point, but clearly not for the right reasons... Theres people who simply don't believe by default and then there's atheists who have genuinely based their lack of belief on logic and the pursuit of knowledge. clearly you weren't the latter, because the latter don't revert back to ignorance.kingGhost wrote:Before you read this block of text, I'll tell you that I'm Christian so if you want to make knee jerk atheist reactions to it, just save your keystrokes. We believe the Bible was breathed (inspired directly) by God. I know you don't think so, but it's what I believe, so respect that right even if you don't respect my belief.honey-d wrote:But the Bible itself was written by man, even the most devout of Christians understand that. No disrespect. But when people start to say "Oh this is just a metaphor for that, thats why it doesn't actually make much sense." it just seems a bit desperate to justify things which science/evolution can prove are false now (IMO). Not surprising considering how old the Bible is.kingGhost wrote:And there's a lot of Christian experts who think the story of Adam and Eve is more metaphor than history.
