but searching through discogs I've remembered how hard it is to find a name 'cause they're all taken, sometimes 3, 4, 5 times! :u:

So what rule thumb would/did you use in using a name that's already taken (ie: how long its been since they made a track, level of their success, tracks they've released, closeness in genres, etc.)?
And another question that's probably already been done a thousand times: how did you get yours!

cheers
Closeness and genre and shit dont matter if their legends... No taking QBert, no taking J.Dilla, no taking Jackal n Hyde, leave DynamixII alone, ect. On and independant level its more about respect and shit, and number of releases/listenrs lol.

Really man there are plenty left, just think harder.

Mine? Old shit from when I was a kid into phones/networking... Just got abreviated and stuck through.

I made mine from the way I produce. When I'm feeling like it I'll just improv on a piano settings and save scraps of what I like, then patch them together later when I don't feel very creative.

Given that you're also from the great white north I'd recommend something to do with that. Longjohn Sketch, Wool Sock Delight, Iceballs, or Toquemaster G to name a few. You could probably even venture into some Canadian cinema. Randy Lahey, Raveen, and Sunnyvale Parks are all solid names as well.

I can't believe no-one's said Milky Pirate.

You've changed production forum, you've changed.

Pick anything, you will make your name by making mint tunes. I think I remember reading in Reso's Q&A he picked his name because it looked cool when he wrote it, Akira Kiteshi thought he'd be able to get a gig in japan with his. Your name could be Alpacamilkpoop, if your tunes are sick your name will be on peoples mind.

I think the closest I've ever found to mine is "KeseK" Which I was surprised by.

I like to use different part names for machines and stuff, be them real or fictitious, generally they're quite catchy and not a lot of people do it on the same things so you're alright.
