Naming the track is one of my fav bits!

Well i can be in trouble to sometimes, but if you use no vocals etc.....
Whats the first thing that pops in ur mind?
Was there any concept behind your song?

I just make all my tracks self consciously dark and then think of self consciously tough guy names for them, even though I'm just a reclusive dork in a bedroom with a laptop resting on an Ikea sock drawer.

Hehe I love naming tracks, but I never want other people to see the meaning in them. Calling a track something generic just won't work for me personally... Like "scary dark oooo I'm gonna get you" or "the reckoning"

My last release consisted of... Isisc, Makortislin, Vesana Minus and Aerinth...

Other random names include, 10 an, minus 13 5, ninet, Lysrineia, Threun, Suolille, Kosphron, Envedaral, Csuin, Chrintsk, eminentia, uzchenk, Sann N1, V Ess 9, ikuares, Osilno, Tirn zche...


If it's an album or an EP I tend to give it all meaning, normally via numbers/codes of some sort, I like to think one day a maths wizz or obsessive person will work something out... Though probably not. Not because noone has the ability, but because who gives a shit reeeally

Well sometimes, when im a specific dark mood!
I get an idea, try it out...then work with the song alot with small details n shit!
Then i listen to it seriously, try to get the feeling!
If the feeling can be named, i try it latin or something....sounds more deeper then!

Most of my songs there is always some thought behind it, and the title is an important hint to that! So yeah, naming titles is at least important!

I have a tune that is absolutely mind blowing for once but CANT COME UP WITH NAME FOR IT!

I feel guilty about it for some reason--like I've failed creatively. Like I'm less than a human.

A title can really be half the experience, like the artwork as well... a good titled tune will prick the interest of the listener and make them go "oooh whats's this about?"

What process do you lot use for inspiration? A list of cool words scribbled somewhere, ready to go, or whatever pops into your head? Or simply a word from the samples inside... I don't like the last route, its lazy...

It helps to just think about how it makes you feel, what it makes you think of, etc. Take some time and really just listen to it with no distractions for a while, an idea might pop into your head.

Go for a walk and enjoy nature or sit down and watch a few shows on TV if that doesn't storm up some ideas try laying in bed with the tune on repeat until you think of a name and can't listen anymore there's so many methods... I usually stick with the random shit that pops in my head.

This is kind of a cross over from the hook thread, but usually good hooks will kind of sound like they're saying something. Like actual words. Go with what your hook says.

Like, Kromestar's Surgery, that shit sounds like "Avocado" to me, avocado, avocado, ava, avocado.

i like to bumble about on wikipedia for awhile until i find a title a like

i get to learn about a lot of interesting shit in the process :p

I just use a mixture of all these methods. Sometimes it's how I feel about something within the track. Sometimes I'll use a sample with a really catchy name or something and I'll sort of spinoff that for a title. Sometimes when I'm watching tv I'll hear something that really sticks in my head and I'll use that. A lot of times it just seems to be some randomness that pops into my head as I'm working on it and I'll just use it as a name.

Usually I just go with how I feel or what I'm thinking about.

Heartbeats - pretty simple, wrote it for the person I love.
She Colours The Sky - again pretty simple, wrote it for her, hence the name.
Humidity - fairly simple again, it was fucking humid as fuck the day I wrote it.
My Very Name Escapes Me - Taken from a biography (I think) of the same name, but seemed relevant to me at the time due to a bit of a massive identity crisis I was going through.

Dunno how to help you with coming up with names. Usually just comes naturally to me, since I only write music when I'm depressed as hell or annoyed about something, so usually the song names are already there from the start.

On the rare occasions I'm having trouble with a song name I'll look at my book collection and see if anything takes my fancy then maybe twist it around a bit to suit the song.

A friend of mine plays around with random word and phrase generators all the time to come up with names for stuff. That random phrase generator is actually pretty fun to play with just to see what it will come up with. Maybe if you mess around with it, you'll see something that might spark something to use. He never ends up actually using the words or phrases that show up, but he says at some point he'll see a phrase or a word that will just stick with him and usually leads to something.

yeah something the tune reminds me off, or something that has relevance to something thats happened recently. The thesaurus!

These are ALL awesome ideas... i esp like that random phrase generator, and yeah JBE, i do the wiki thing too...

i often come up with a name before i even start the track - then build the track around the title, often helps to give you some direction.
