Friend of mine recently gave me a large amount of money as a gift. I don't want to say the exact figure in case someone recognises this, but it wasn't far off from a grand. She didn't want it repaid, and would not take it back. Is this something friends normally do, or should I look into it deeper? Not implying sex, but rather "possibly more than friends" type thoughts... I didn't need it or ask for it, but she does have money I guess.

I must say it was a bit awkward to say the least. I'm going to get her a gift with some of it too.

One of my best friends came into a fair bit of money a couple of years back (compensation for unfair dismissal). She paid for me to fly down to London to see her in London. We rather pointlessly booked a week in a hotel in Shoreditch (The Boundary Rooms) at £350 per night, spent a week going to some of London's best restaurants, bars, did some shopping, bought lots of weed and generally lived like what we'd dreamed being rich would be like.

Still makes me uncomfortable that I'll never be able to repay her but some people are just incredibly generous.
