Can never seem to get mixing right when I'm stoned that has to be done sober, but for messing with ideas and trying things you sometimes wouldn't think of otherwise I thinks it's great!

In the end, if you're someone who likes to smoke then go for it. You can watch lots of those masterclass videos and you'll see people smoking while they produce, and it's just part of how they do things. Just one more instrument in their bag of toys. But you can probably assume with quite a bit of confidence that those people probably smoke all the time. It's just a natural part of their every day life so being high is just a familiar natural feeling and they have a lot more control over themselves while under the influence. On the other hand, if you're someone who just smokes sometimes on the weekends or something then it might be very difficult for you to focus and will probably hinder your ability to produce music efficiently.

I guess the only way you'll find out is to try it out and see. Just don't start smoking pot simply because you think it will all of the sudden make you a great producer. That's not how this works. The only thing that will make you a better producer is time and practice. There are no real shortcuts here.

Truer words have never been spoken, It just mixes different with different people. I personally can focus much better when i smoke, i pay meticulous attention to the finest details when i smoke but i've just smoked for so many years i've learned how to make it work for me. Dont listen to the people who say know as they obviously have a very biased view and have not really learned to discipline themselves when they smoke thus they work better when they dont. Everyone is different if you work better when yer baked get baked simple as. But everything in moderation as smoking lots of anything will make you lethargic in the long run so what i would advise is smoke a j every few days when yer sittin down to do stuff but give yourself a few days off smoking aswell so you have time to process everything that you did and learned when you did smoke, otherwise you'll jus keep piling stuff up in your head which just replaces what you learned after last time etc!

i find that when i'm high i do the little things that i'm too lazy to do or brush off when i'm not.
like i'll hit all the little details but not take too long to do it. I think the perfect combo for me would be to do some parts of a song high and some sober. I just need an income to support that

i rarely smoke weed but if i do i always pick out new details in tunes i've known for years. last week i was completely amazed by the high-end layers of some vex'd tune and the modulation on the hats, something i would never notice sober.
so generally what i do when i'm stoned is sit down with a piece of paper, listen to well-produced dubstep and take notes.

that nosia video is hilarious lol i really want to go hang out with those guys and just tap into some of that noisia vibes.

I like to start a song when I'm high, because I get a good groove that way. When it comes down to the mixdown and dialing in all the correct levels though I like to be sober. If I just worked on songs high all the time I'd never finish anything haha

uh, it's impossible to say whether or not YOU will produce better if you're high, but probably not.

usually i tend to get a lot more done much faster when i'm not high (which is not very often), but i tend to experiment and stray from my standard procedure when i am.

anyways, if you never smoke - you seriously won't get shit done. it's usually people that are used to being high most of the time that tend to work better when stoned.

don't you find that idea kind of sad, being stoned so often that you just get used to it?

i mean, have you ever met a stoner before? it's only sad if it negatively effects one's day to day life, or the people around them.

personally, i'm a stoner, and have been for years. only recently have i begun to cut back, and wait until at least 5pm every day to smoke. i got through a four year university being high basically 100% of the time, even at all my classes. not saying it's a good thing, just saying there's much worse stuff to form habits with. like drinking, or smoking cigs.

on that note, by USED TO IT, i mean, you don't act obviously high, goofy, stupid, etc.

I've never smoked weed in my life, I don't plan too either. So I guess I'll never know
