The sub, the respect and value for space in the tunes, and the amount of creativity that it allows (dubstep, to me, is nt a very restricting genre). And also just the general percussive arrangements in most dubstep tunes...just love em!
And people, let's not make this a "I hate dubstep now" thread. Lets just talk about what we love in the genre. Not "the past" or "it's shitty now."

to be fair, and i'm totally new to the scene
but its history is what intrigues me the most
and my favorite tunes are old ones
So thats what i love about it
but what i love most about that music is the drums
no other genres like it. the fact that it could be anything.. really organic sounding samples, techy electronic stuff, breaks, whatever
the delays and reverbs generously feeding the mixes
so basically the dub influence, and the step to it
wobble bass was endearing and new to me (i never listened to dnb), but it was always the drums that hit me hardest
the tempo, the results when mixing two awesome 140 tunes that have different grooves
sub is an integral part of it, but again, even before i knew it was there the drums sucked me in (i didn't always have a subwoofer)
...
and burial

I agree, and I'm most definitely a fan of the old stuff, but I just didn't want this thread to deteriorate into a hate stream.
And there are still artists and labels putting out good old school material, so it's not dead.
And yeah...dem drums. Sometimes so simple, sometimes so complex....always awesome

i love this dungeon shit but it makes me "dance" in the weirdest fucking ways
like my body refuses to even move on-beat. its like watching someone squirm uncomfortably but with the biggest grin on their face
