I find this happens quite a lot. I was listening to some Burial a few days ago, and my housemate asked me why it sounded so bad and if my speakers had broken

I've had a few similar things said about the sort of ambient/glitchhop style tracks I've been making recently too, but I figure if I enjoy what I make, that's enough.

I love threads like this. Going with the silence thing, does it really exist. Put your a finger in each ear(don't think dirty). Is it silent? No, I didn't think so. There is noise there. Silence, it is honestly one of the most untrue words I know in English. It has even been proven that people with hearing disabilities can hear some "noise". For that reason I think we went majorly off track for 1 and half pages and completely dis regarded what Ketamine wanted an opinion on.

Anyways, back on topic now. I honestly consider everything music. I prefer my music to have musicality(wrong word choice, just can't think of the word right now). By that I mean I like it to actually follow a scale. Do I like glitchy stuff, yes. But I only the glitch songs that are note just noise. I like my noise to have some order. Would you rather hear a toddler randomly hit the drums, or would you rather hear a trained percussionist play an organised sequence? Again, that is just my opinion. If you post something I am sure you will get tons of feedback and I am sure all of us want to hear one of your songs.

Yeah i think the john cage piece was already mentioned, you couldn't really call it a song though, it was more of a device to make people aware of the present moment for a certain period of time, like meditation. He was very much influenced by mysticism and eastern philosophy.
You could just about say it was art, i suppose he did 'create' the opportunity for the silence, with the intention of communicating something. But its not music, otherwise everything you hear would be music.

for over a year now i've not given a single fuck about what anyone thinks of my musical expressions (i hesitate to even call them songs). best thing ever. now i can get on with my life. it's like all i was worried about when i made filthy bangers was, well, making filthy bangers, and not much else mattered.... and man, that's a really empty existence. now i make music that makes me grin, and if people wanna come along on the journey, it just means they are a true friend or at least a kindred spirit. and if they don't like it, don't 'get' it.. too bad for them. and it goes both ways i guess....i fucking hate all the dubstep/drumstep/electro with the stupid vocal basses and adhd sampling.... <--- but clearly this is just my opinion. i used to like that stuff until it just got too played. (and also it just feels like it's made for teenage boys to drink monsters and play online FPS games to) again opinion. you see how little it matters? skrillex is huge and gets much love supposedly. (altho i've heard stories of him trying and failing to mack on the same underage-ish girls as datsik )
point is. it doesn't matter what the fuck they are playing at all the big shows and on the radio, because awesome things like minimal techno forums, TB-303 soundcloud groups, and trance compilations exist. altho, fuck, i wish SOMEbody played minimal tech in my town, would love to hear it thump.... tis life

I went to Ibiza, that stuff booms! Really really deep sub bass kick drum, and crystal clear sounds. I mean crystal clear. Was awesome. Ibiza is the place to go if you're into any sort of house, its everywhere!

That was what started the whole silence discussion - somebody else put a minute of silence into their song, and got SUED! 6 figure settlement for copying John Cage's silence! Crazy. Especially there is a gap of silence on almost every cd between tracks.
