i don't get your point here.

whilst i would encourage soldiers to desert rather than go to afghanistan (and i am committing a crime by writing that, unlike the post this thread is about), it's not always that simple:
kay wrote:I could be wrong, but I believe Bad Things happen to soldiers who desert.
also, they probably knew little about afghanistan before they got there. their intentions were almost certainly far better than the war they ended up taking part in.

all i'm tryiing to do is give reasons why british soldiers who've gone to afghanistan should be treated with a certain level of respect. this may be pointless, since all the posters in this thread seem to agree.

irrelevant, because he wasn't (as i read it) trying to make a point about race.

his point was about biased coverage of the casualties on either side in the war, which he's right about.

though he also went to insult the memory of the dead british soldiers, which i dont' agree with but he is entitled to do. (the soldiers didn't decide we'd invade afghanistan, and doubtless thought they were being sent on a much more justifiable mission than what it turned out to be. and they and their families deserve some respect because they've died.)
Political power comes from the people. People delegate that power to fair judges (some John Locke swagggg). If the soldiers didn't want to risk their lives or didn't want to invade afghanistan they should've deserted or never volunteered at all, it was their choice, not some politic organization's.
I could be wrong, but I believe Bad Things happen to soldiers who desert.
The other option being murdering innocents and dying in a war that will accomplish nothing for the majority of mankind?
I believe that equating soldiers with people who went out there with the intention to murder innocents is wrong. Also, have you considered that perhaps at least a proportion of soldiers actually do want to go out there to help? I mean, clearly, you telling them how shit and pointless their loss of lives are is doing mankind a lot more good.

Hircine youre chatting complete shit like an ignorant little boy.

Yes soldiers know risk, yes they choose to join but that doesnt mean they deserve to die or that they have to kill innocent people, you actually make me laugh. Why are you posting like youre some modern version of malcolm x, fighting for the rights of oppressed people. You are most likely some rich teenager with a chip on youre shoulder.

soldiers generally don't go to afghanistan with the intention of murdering civilians, but they can end up in situations where they have little choice but to do precisely that.

telling them what they're doing is pointless - even more: telling their families after they've been killed - is unpleasant but truthful. actually, it's worse than pointless: their presence in afghanistan is making the situation worse.

If you can be arrested for opinions.

Bieber is not a well loved pop "sensation", he is nothing more than a popstar that uses auto-tune frequently. - FACT.

Cher Lloyd can sing. - Opinion.

Lock me up.
