IMO I want the sound design questions in different threads, so I don't have to look through loads of other questions and answers if we get a proper discussion or somethin going

Instead of a sub-forum then, maybe a few different thread links in the op for specific sound design questions. Drums in one, fx/ear candy, mid range sounds, and sub bass sounds, for example. That way you can go somewhere specific and get specific advice for what you want, you know? Sound design as a whole is too much for 1 thread honestly. But if it's the only way, it's still better than right now.

So basically the production bible

+1 for sub-forum, sorry wub! i think any other way you do it would be cluttered and un-constructive. especially considering the vastness and importance of sound-design. at the moment, the create this sound thread has multiple conversations interfering with each other, and tends to get side-tracked and very long winded. but if this isnt an option, then lock and redirect.

Except, active discussion on like 5 or 6 specific topic about sound design. I didn't know we we're supposed to bump those old ass threads.

This forum should not cater to individuals not willing to invest their own time and effort into finding answers. If you cant use the fucking search function you don't deserve to use this site. The forum would thrive if it didnt appeal to the lowest common denominator. These "Sound Design" threads, 99% of the time, are a bastion of people lacking creativity and the spark to seek out knowledge/experience themselves.

lol, everytime theres a suggestion thread on here it takes about a page before
SUBFORUM SUBFORUM SUBFORUM SOLVE ALL PROBLEMSS

I personally think you should ban anyone who gives wrong advice, which is the true problem here

If you don't know what you're on about, either add that disclaimer in your post or don't bother answering.

Maybe as a community we should be aggressive in correcting people when they're wrong or encouraging bad practices. I know I would much rather be told in public than I'm horribly incorrect as opposed to continually being blissfully unaware of my own ignorance. Isn't that the point? Aren't we all here to learn something new from a fresh perspective?

The last thing this place needs is people being MORE aggressive

A lot of the bad advice (or advice I don't generally perceive to be accurate) comes from frequent users who kick the fuck off at anyone who questions them.

Haha, I meant aggressive in the proactively correcting sense. Not aggressive in the pre-pubescent ChadDub rage sense. I'm sure we'll all capable of telling someone they're wrong without making them look like a complete moron. Besides, we all started somewhere... :D

In audio, maybe even more so than everything else in life, there are a lot of different ways to do the same thing. I love when there are 10 different techniques to do the same thing. Some wrong. It is all good. It is fertilizer, it may smell bad, but it is fruitful.

Here is the honest nwj perspective: sound design is close to half of production, this forum should be filled with sound design questions and conversations. I'd like to choose which conversations I participate in. If there is a cat blender thread, I will not participate, if there is a syncro pad thread, I'll participate, my choice. But if there is one thread that is filled with cat blenders and the occasional interesting question, I'm just not going to participate. I know many people feel the same way.

I don't feel the forum is "clogged" up with sound design questions... I mean perhaps all of the 10 daily cat blender threads should be locked and redirected, but legit questions about sound design should be left, unmolested. There aren't that many new threads around here, and conversation within threads is now feeble. I don't know, reducing the number of threads around here, I don't think is the option dubway is looking for.

yep,
YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE

i say leave it as it is- maybe if its something which has been asked recently (as in a couple of days then a lock and redirect)

you completely changed my mind :6: , good points there. i still think a subforum would be the best option for neatness' sake, but otherwise leave em. :W:

a sub forum is going to polarize the production forum(s) even more

it wont prevent people from posting, itll just be posted in a different area. organization is what i have in mind, however what you say could be possible

i agree the base of the problem is laziness, if people don't want to follow the rules then they shouldn't get their own sub forum
