i'd rather say they make it music ;)

u know what ur talking about then? must have alot of dub step nights in poland..
what does it have to do with?
RANDOM TRIO wrote: my opinion was the more notes u use the more likely u are 2 twist em up therefor making it more grimey...my opinion.
it depands on notes and how do u use them and that's my opinion

I am in no position to disagree with someone like Random Trio, as a matter of fact I'm reticent to give my opinion at all. However I really disagree with this whole 1-note bassline = dubstep. I think as Distinction points out, it depends on what your aiming with the tune. If you want to make a dark skunked out stepper, then yup, one note basslines work and sound rough as. But how are tunes like Coki's Officer or Kode9's Kingston not dubstep? They both have multi-tonal bass lines, one's upbeat the other's dark, both hammer out, both are dubstep (to my admittedly somewhat naive mind).

I think one note basslines certainly have their place and sound hammering, but I certainly wouldn't want to hear a dubstep set entirely composed of them.

And mate Indian Stomp   BIG.

at the end of your day, when you are sitting at your computer or whatever no one is stopping you from doing anything. 1 tune with a 2 note bass line can have a completely different mood to another tune with 2 note bass. it totally depends on the keys you are using, whether it be part of a minor or major scale. for achieving different moods its best to do some research on key signatures and scales. major is happier whereas minor is sort of mellow. or you could just programme your melody and change some keys and listen to change in mood until you achieve the mood you are looking for, im no natural musician and i cant really play any instrument, but just by practisin you develop and understanding of what a good melody or pattern looks like and why certain melodys/patterns are so catchy, due to todays technology the possiblities are just about endless so feel free to MERK!
