Was listening to loads of Grime all week and started digging through the 12" and listening to early Garage and just vibing about. But, I thought I would ask on here incase anyone knows but I was wondering how hard it is to make that warm pulsating bass sound in this track at about 0.50:
That sluggish sounding bass reminds me of Northern Line Records with Paleface... Ahh the good ol' Garage days.
I use FL, so anyone that has any knowledge using FL that would be preferred!
Big up to anyone that contributes and to all the SNH mandem!

This must have come up somewhere before cuz it's everywhere in post-dubstep these days, but does anyone know a good way to get these tom-tom like melodic percussive sounds that a lot of artists are using now like Fantastic Mr. Fox and this guy (around 1:00):
Is this a VST or just a pitched sample or what?
Thanks.

it won't have come up because almost every post in these threads has been "how do I make this *skrillex tune generic bass* sound?"
Anyway, I know 123mrk uses Ableton and Massive exclusively for all his synth work. Those sound quite alot like the built in acoustic latin percussion inside Suite 8. If you've got it I'd take a look.

@philthy_Phil: that first one is just square waves, what makes it sound 80s is the "vibrato", if you're using FL go to the "pitch" tab on 3xosc, move the LFO amount slightly and change the speed to "1 step". slow off the LFO attack a bit so it hits solid and then starts to oscillate.
@sofa_King: they're just different mallet instruments, have a look for some VSTs that do that sort of thing. might also be worth looking at whatever claims to be "ethnic" or "world music" percussion.
its ultra simple but how would i go about making the electric piano/organ sound in the beginning of this? i cant get the dissonance, mine always sound too clean or nothing like it. i want to use a synth as opposed to just getting an electric piano vst.

^ Just an uneducated guess here, but try very very very subtle FM/RM with off-pitch oscillators and a slight bit of noise as well.

I've always wanted a talkbox, ever since I started playing guitar. They cost about eleventy billion dollars (read, 200 or more USD for a decent one), and I figured computers have to be able to at least come close with a synth/effect combo.
What am I looking for? Vocoding doesn't seem to be it, I want something that will either listen to my voice/recording and apply the correct filtering, either as an external plugin or whatever. Vocoder does seem close, I'll admit, but I'm not seeing one that does well enough. It's more robotic and less real feeling. I'd like something I could put over my other synths.
I have a legal copy of Reaktor, and wanted to try out "the mouth" but it's annoying and you only get 30 minutes to mess with it. Is it worth the full price? It seems like as a synth it's not very good, but if I could really trigger it with midi to act as an effect over other synths...
And if not The Mouth, what else?

if you can't be bothered to do that, it's definitely worth investing in one. i'm in no way a hardware purist but nothing will come close to sounding like an actual talkbox.

I don't mean to be a stuck up tnuc here but using too much talkbox can cause serious brain damage. (Vibrations inside your skull).
Just a heads-up if you really plan on working with it 24/7.

Yeah I'm mostly interested in software but I might try it.

I don't think you can replicate a talkbox cause it's like, you know, analog.
But really it uses your voice to modulate an incoming sound with a tiny speaker and mic, no?

Indeed, but even if there were ways to get close or produce interesting (but related) effects I'd be super interested in trying them out.
How to make just a kick and sub sound so full (KM - Askum)

The song in question is Kryptic Minds - Askum, check below for the video.
I'm just wondering how they get it sounding so fat when it first comes in, if i ever try to make anything similar the result is a very empty and thin sounding track.
cheers!

Fat and filtered kicks and atmosphere I think
Couldn't actually tell what you were talking about
Though you were talking about the fat ass sub that comes in

I have been trying to get these really filthy basses that p0gman and people like bratkilla, rekoil, and getter have been making. I know there are comb filters involved but i just cant get the right amount of movement and just general sound. I am using reason 5 currently. So I ask you Members of Dubstepforum, point me in the right direction for this style of bass. Not looking for the exact sounds, just the general type. And if you are unfamiliar with the artists
Now if you cant help with those, then my other question would be how would one get sounds similar to that used by Habstrakt and Brown and Gammon. No specific sound in one of there songs, just the style of sound. But for those who are unfamiliar with these artists then this would be a good example of the style since they both have similar sounds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxCYrLkwiXs

Why did my post get merged into this? So pointless. Just consists of people all trying to find out different things and nothing specific. Nothing will get solved.
