They didn't even write Ms. Lauryn Hill correctly.
Fucking Source. I didn't even realise they were still going tbh.

i'm not gonna delve too deep into how wrong this list is...but a couple things that irked me immensely (tha others havent mentioned - i dont think).
Kanye West being in there at all.
LL Cool J being at #11 - down. way down. if at all in.
Andre 3000 being at #13 - up
Fabolous being in there
Rae & Ghostface not.
Seriously though, noone has paid attention to The Source for a decade.

no Vast Aire or Kool Keith... hmmm....
Kool Keith is there at #18 under Kool G Rap.
southstar wrote:Laszlo wrote:@Southstar - You sayin Nas and Redman aren't good??
Not a fan of Nas. Redman is quality in the same way as DMX and Ice cube are quality but top lyricists?
Redman is one of the GOAT, he's got bars for days, sure he may not be the deepest but he can rock the mic for sure.
Rick Ross and 50? But no Sean Price? No Ghostface? Hmmm.

none of them are on the top 50 "lyrical" rappers list?
ALSO WHERE THE FUCK ARE DOOM & JERU
Prodigy from mobb made the list. Don't know why hav isn't on there though.
I love doom and all, but I don't think he belongs anywhere near a 50 best lyricist list. Albeit he belongs on there more than half the people they put, but still.
And where the fuck is lord finesse!?! He should easily be in the top 5.

So we all agree the list is a travesty. Does anyone want to have a crack at explaining The Source's motive behind it?
Are they just that out of touch or are they too embroiled in the hip hop world to be objective?
Also, was Eminem right in thinking he deserved 5 mics?

pretty sure he's on the 50 worst list, in the section titled "doesn't remember any of his lyrics (not that it matters)"

Not a lot of hip hop albums are, imho.
Most in that '5 mic' list (that I know) have some bullshit tunes on.

other than Lil Kim - The Naked Truth (LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL) and maybe Bun B's LP (tbh I've only listened to it once), I'd say all the 5 mic albums are perfect albums without a song you would skip. None of Eminems LP's are unskippable (IMO).

nah rakim or melle mel have to be number 1. no one on that list had more influence than them.
plus you know, the source always has an east coast bias

I think i'll have to bow to your superior knowledge/opinion. As I say, I don't know all the albums on there and the one's I do, although amazing, certainly have tracks I have to skip (barring 7 or 8ish).

i missed prodigy & kool keith on there
i still think DOOM although his flow is staggered has very impressive lyrics
& most influential would probably be guys from like the Fat Boys or LL Cool J in that vein of golden age stuff

laszlo, i don't think i'll ever understand your unwavering allegiance with ol' pac. i do applaud your commitment to singing his praises, though.
dude did what he did well, for sure, but.... doesn't even come close to biggie or L, in fact i'd say i rate a good 5 or 10 rappers miles ahead of him. in terms of influence, surely would be someone before his time too...
