dunno i just cant help but think that bandcamp is wack. the name irritates me, the homemade stuff you have to associate with on there...
it just seems fake to me. author music deserves a better outlet than that.
hold out for another proper label tbh
With a bit of effort, Bandcamp could kill it. At the moment, it's so hard to find stuff you'll want unless you're directly linked to it. If you as a user could create a custom shop (follow artists, labels, specific bandcamps, etc.) and have a homepage that updates with new stuff, label news, that'd be sick. Maybe you can do something of the sort already, but I know that if somebody's selling something on bandcamp rather than through a shop, I'll bag it off there, get more of the $$$ to the label/artist directly.

Do agree there is a tonne of shit on there though.

just to set it straight...

Black Box set out with the best of intentions I'm sure for our album.
We have had an apology of sorts from Thinking and I can't go into any detail about the reasons why everything ended up the way it did.

We don't hold grudges and let bitterness eat us up which is why we are just going to forget this and move on.

Sometimes you win and sometimes you don't and its just unlucky that 2 out of 3 album didn't see the proper light of day.

There will be vinyl of the latest album and I am quite sure that Tectonic may repress the first album if they see enough demand.

We/I am not exclusive to any labels and just send out music when I have made it to labels and it goes from there and some people like and some don't.

I have given dubstep a lot of my time and neglected a lot of things in my personal life to keep pushing my music and keep trying to deliver quality products.

Comes a time when the cosmos just says "no" and deals a bad card.

luck of the draw!

Thank you to those that have continued to follow the sounds over the years and its only right people know what's going on that have had vested interests and built us up to what we have become.

Our goal with Author was to no be a product of the system and rattle around from magazine to magazine and mix to mix gaining hype. It was about an organic growth and not influencing passive listener and hyping it to the point where people didn't have a choice.

The Author stuff is really not for everyone and nor should it be and that's not elitist that's me being real.

I do hope we can release again in the future and bring something to the table but for now we will retreat and focus on playing the shows and waiting in vein for inspiration for the next project.

:)
Real talk. All the best for the future mate! Peaks n troughs innit.

yeh verry shit, to be honest i dont blame the label i blame shitty distribution companies and mp3's, theres no value in tunes any more....especially when i can post free albums on sc for nothing. wich is what gnatz is doing.....

also would like to say bandcamp and sound cloud has devalued music, i dont think its bad for music, the listeners perception of music has changed over the last 5 or so years. music has become more expendable.

Actually I'd say soundcloud and bandcamp have put the value of music directly into the hands of the artists rather than traditional labels, publishers and retailers.
Now if you want to point a finger at something devaluing music I'd say the large streaming services like pandora, spotify etc have.

well you have a point but i was basically saying the fact that people have music at there finger tips they loose appreciation for it, just listen to the 1 minute clip on sc for free rather then buy it on viny. got a copy off my mate on a usb rather then have my own copy. shit like that. vinyl made the world go round everyone was happy

Do people actually do this though? Like, people that were even considering buying vinyl, would they just listen to a clip on soundcloud over and over rather than get the full product?

Maybe if they didn't push those couple of awful - disposable artists they have/had Black Box would be financially stable to actually put out good music.

That is my opinion anyways, everyone else seems to be bum off Kahn, Biome, Gants, Killwatt.. Those big releases all stopped me from contributing towards their future, their latest output is getting better but still haven't over come the destruction those guys did to their label.

Vinyl don't work anymore really either..
