Don't mind his lack of mixing but his High pass filter action was getting a bit out of hand last time I saw him.

Fair enough reloading Poison Dart 5+ times but at least let it drop properly

Exactly. Depending on the music you play you don't need to beatmatch. You just need to know how to control what ur trying to do.

How does this discussion even exist. Are you seriously this caught up in one scene of club music that you don't know that there are about as many styles of DJing as there are genres? Do you think a techno DJ from Berlin does rewinds? Do you think a dancehall DJ does 5 minute blends?

Check his King Midas Sound Fact mix. Top selection without drawing for any bug stuff.

People don't seem to realise that The Bug comes from a background in dancehall & industrial/noise music. Neither of those genres really take beatmatching into account. The filter/reverb/siren abuse probably comes from the industrial/noise connection.

Beatmatching doesn't really bother me, roots reggae selectahs only use 1 deck ffs no need to worry about filters or sirens between tunes just straight lift the needle and change the record.

Some people in this thread would shit themselves if that happened in a dance apparently.

Have you actually seen The Bug play out?
I swear half the people defending him here haven't even seen him.

All I'm saying is when I saw him he practically cleared the floor it was that bad

Yep, saw him last year with loads of problems cause the air con broke and it got sweaty as fuck making the turn tables play up, luckily he brings an army of mcs/vocalists and destroyed the place.. was rammed to the point it was probably dangerous due to the heat. Skeng sing-a-long >>>

Saw him at a festival too and didn't know how his set would sound on an outdoor stage, again.. destroyed it. Set of the festival.

I've said it before, an on-point Bug set >> Yunx set with impeccable mixing.. but then again I go to raves for the music not mixing.

& Miss Red b2b Flowdan over Poison Dart at the end.. if you've heard that you'd understand how stupid this thread is.

sorry, but that's just wrong. you don't have long blends, but you still beatmatch most of the tunes if possible. if you can't beatmatch them at least you drop them from top in time and not just at some random point. i've been to reggae and dancehall nights for years and playing a sound myself and every ambitious sound tries to beatmatch the tunes where it's possible. i don't mind guys like jah shaka though, they're doing it well and it fits the vibe.
tbf i've only seen the bug once and it was by far the most chaotic, vibe-killing set i've ever seen due to his 'mixing'. selection was meh, too. even guys like tony matterhorn have better timing and mixing.
to make it short: the bug might consider himself a dancehall selecta, but he's still pretty shit at that from what i've seen.
bennyfroobs wrote: well th e selecta was originally the guy who handed over the dubplates to the dj, the one who had a little forage around in the vinyl bags for the next tune
in soundsystem culture the dj (deejay) is the vocalist introducing the tunes or chatting. today's dancehall artists still name themselves deejays, as opposed to singer or singjays.
and the selecta doesn't necessarily hand over the records to someone else.
