Yeah dunno, like I opened the thread on impulse because yeah, who doesn't get excited about new Burial? So I didn't just get in here to hate it. But once I let it sink in I figured... holy crap I don't actually care and this is the first record of his I don't care about anymore. Pretty major. But then, there's a lot of other good music too so it's no biggie. Very few musicians stay consistently good for more than a few records.

Yeah that's true. Guess with me though it's like Boddika. I basically don't like anything he puts out now, but I still take a second to check out a preview on the record shops, just because I really liked Instramental. That's the way I see it.

I open burial threads to laugh at the ridiculous fedora comments about rainy days feels and similar shit

have to say i sorta agree with gene on this
still love burial but the last ep felt like a collection of ideas that could have been an amazing album if he'd fleshed them out into full songs
even if he'd just looped them for twice as long before moving onto the next bit i'd have probs been satisfied

Fair enough, just personally for me I felt that when his tracks were 4-6 minutes long they had much better structure, all his 10+ minute tracks are just a sprawling directionless mess imo, but could be good tracks down if they were edited down to around 5 minutes and given some semblance of structure.

Well, on like the last record, yeah there were good bits in there had they been developed into tunes. But they weren't developed, they were there and surrounded by proper cheese. Like, '90s Airline TV Ad' cheesy. I get the vibe he's going for. Probably tried to recreate the feel of random tunes recorded to tape off a pirate station. But ideas are one thing, putting them to good use is another.
I'm not doubting his ability to make tunes. Just his current efforts. And I don't hate the guy for it, it's not like I feel entitled to good Burial. I don't have that much of an emotional attachment to musicians anyway, just to music. And Burial's new boring music doesn't severe the attachment I have to his old shit.

Pretty much this.
I can understand not preordering/copping the new Burial EP for the sake of it being Burial as some people clearly do (see Redeye charts) but i always give a quick listen to clips of new material by people I did rate even if they've gone off the boil.

Yeah, even if it's a band that have release 3 or 4 albums since I liked them or whatever, if I hear about a new release, I'll at least give it the time of day.
Ah well, different strokes.

After a while I stop bothering, I wouldn't even bother checking 2562 or kode 9 releases anymore for example.
I'll definitely check this berial, just hope its not in same style as the last one is all

It's weird, I didn't find the last EP cheesy at all. But 'Kindred' is one of the cheesiest songs I've ever heard, I can't even listen to it! I get what you saying about the ideas not being developed though. It's the same thing with Zomby for me, but where Zomby just ends his tracks after 2 minutes, Burial seems to draw them out and connect all the random parts he's made with bits of crackle and pointless samples. I still like his first album a lot though

Totally feel you on Zomby. I always thought he released great ideas, but not great tunes.
I think I like the song Kindred best off of the release.
Burial has like... NO CONSENSUS

I'm a fan of Roughsleeper (and Truant), had the video from the first page playing in the background and mistakenly opened 'Man on Road'. Changed my life. Big mix.

are you serious? you've missed out on some awesome stuff then. Fever was amazing. 2562 has maybe had a few tunes here and there that weren't life changing but man that's just silly to give up on someone like him

You do remember this Burial though, right? It's not like all his tunes are required to have a perfect structure/mixdown, I do get you that the latest release wasn't that great and I didn't like the arrangement either but I was like well it is Burial, it doesn't surprise me that he did something like that.
Saddest thing about Burial release for me, even though I know it's never going to happen I always get a bit hopeful that Feral Witchchild could be in it, or any of the rest of unreleased tunes I love.
