im actually liking it a lot more than house of cards so far (and i thought house of cards was pretty good)
ive watched that last scene at the trap house 3 times again now, it's just so well done, even aside from the huge one-take. theres so many cool subtleties like when ginger is about to open the stash and rust gets the hostage to do it, only to see a glimpse of a booby trapped hand grenade inside. the tension with the shadows outside of the window and rust repeating "eeeeeasssyy, in and out, in and out"...
Hey Charlie... We're not gonna give you the Oscar no matter how hard you try...
Also that end scene had me on the edge of my seat for all its length. Based Fukunaga, this was just too good. If this show keeps going like it is now hbo might be delivering the best thing ever seen on TV
Ep 5 preview
Rust outside the interview room, oh boy here we go
I'm struggling to hold back on the superlatives. This is just unbelievable. Every second of it is engrossing. I would have agreed the cop duo format is done to death until I saw this. I've watched the first 3 episodes 3 times already, and I feel like I'm wanting to re-watch the whole thing every time an episode comes out.

keeps getting better and better...
the burned down school and church both have ties to reverend tuttle, the governor's brother... someone in power is trying to cover something up and cohle has spent the last several years investigating them.
that last shot could be symbolic of him being framed?
cohle is probably gonna fuck martys wife based off the preview

I've finally started this serie and it's a promising start. Hopefully it will keep this quality, but it's HBO. It's not like i have to worry.

That was quite a big turn in style, but very interesting. I like the way
they haven't shied away from people pointing fingers at Cohle, meaning it surely couldn't end up as simply as him being the killer. The stuff with Marty's kids looks mad dark, the tin men/dols etc.
Dunno if that was a response to me, but I meant it couldn't be Rust. Or they're very unlikely to just blame it all on him.

Oh yeah misread your comment sorry. obvs something dark happened to Marty's daughter between 2002 and 2012, with his talk about the detective's curse with his family and how she grew up. It's become pretty clear she was exposed to the cult to some extent
This makes me actually want to check it out, and I'm totally commitment-phobic about TV series.
each season has a new story and new characters so no commitment with this one

but the detectives stay the same lol?
No they don't. Pizzolato said he wanted to have a new dynamic each season so we might very well have a Silence of the Lambs style story or one detective vs one murderer etc for the next seasons. But Rust and Cohle's story ends with season 1
