How so? You are trained to react a specific way to certain words. The fact you're constantly told nobody should say it and its unacceptable is clearly going to mean people react badly when hearing it. Its not the meaning or the history of the word that causes the shock when its said, its the pavlovian conditioning of being told to react that way.
Can't tell me everybody in 2014 is offended by the word because of its actual meaning, 99% of people don't even know what it means.. and most of the time its not even used in a derogatory way. The way a word is said and the context its said is just as important in deriving meaning than the actual sound you make when saying it.
History or ignorance doesn't explain why people get offended when a white person sings a song with the word ****** in or quotes someone who said it (in a non-derogatory way). Training people to be offended by that sound does.
As CK said in his bit, "N-word" implies the word ******.. your brain registers it as the same thing, its essentially the same word.. the fact one is offensive and one isn't is the result of being condition to react that way.

Tbf if one person said "he was like wassup n-word" and another person said "he was like wassup niqqa" you'd assume the first example was a racist incident a day the second was someone mentioning something that happened. Or more shocked at the first example anyways

Yeah thats how normal people would respond. People who are offended by the word ****** in any context would presumably be more shocked at the 2nd even if it was clear that the first example was describing a racist incident. Ignore the shock of the actual incident the shock of the word being said would be more shocking in the first example, because of conditioning.
Its like if a white guy got into a big argument with a black guy and started calling him "n-word", people would just laugh at how ridiculous that is.. despite the fact the intention was to be racist. However if someone like in masons situation was caught accidentally singing along to a song, you'd probably get a few people on your back.. the fact his mate even had to point out what he'd done, as if it was truly shocking, says it all. There was no intent there whatsoever, still shocking. Full on racism using some "placeholder" phrase that essentially means the same thing isn't offensive at all and would get more laughs than shocked faces.

Nah, that's still pretty fucked up tbh. I wouldn't laugh cos the guy is obviously a racist tnuc if he has to resort to calling the guy a ****** during an argument Just like if someone started calling someone who was gay a f*ggot that's fucked up, that's just not right to me
I have noticed myself sometimes accidentally saying to friends yeahh ****** or oh sht ******, in conversation without even realising. Think it's just cos it's a word (especially within hip-hop that I listen to a lot of) is just thrown around and it just enters my vocabulary after hearing it a lot. Just like some people pick up words like "fam" or "safe" from things like music.
I suppose with words such as these it's quite often the context.

I wouldn't use the term around american people tbh, but that's more about me not expecting people that has been exposed to that history directly to be sensible enough to discern my intention with using it.
I realize that is the same prejudice that in another context would allow me to use it, but then again I'm fine with how much I emphathise on another level - and that is probably the tradeoff if there is one - the interest.

I'm actually gonna respond seriously to this.
When I first looked up that Louis CK video, I saw this:
5 seconds of that video and I had to click out. Her voice is overwhelming.

Yeah, if I ever saw that happen I'd probably have to interview everyone on the scene, that would be phenomenal.

Kid Shuffle, in consulting with the constituency, we've decided it would be preferable to be referred to as "w people".
We are ready to make concessions. What will it take to make it happen?

Yeah my bad that example was terrible lol.. the obvious intent of racism would be fucked up & shocking.. I meant the use of that particular word would be shocking for a different reason, you'd never expect someone to use that word in an abusive context.. considering they use it on the news. Context is often completely ignored with these types of words and its straight up offensive in any context, which doesn't make sense to me.
