I get that, I hate people who do it for a little ego boost.. pretend to care for a bit just to make themselves feel good. But that said change will only occur if outsiders get involved.. with US backing Israel will never have any intention of changing. If change relies on other countries being more vocal about the current situation, the only way they'll do that is if it becomes a national interest and national interests are pretty much dictated through media. If the protests keep the story high up on the news agenda day in day out it can only be a good thing imo.

Donkey Suicide Bomber Blown Up in Gaza as It Approaches Israelis

Image

A donkey strapped with explosives was deployed against Israeli troops on Friday evening during the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. Things didn't end well for the animal.

Israeli soldiers were suspicious of the lone donkey as it approached their position, and soon came to see it was carrying a bomb. According to the Israel Defense Forces blog, "The soldiers opened fire, causing the explosives to detonate."

No human injuries were reported, however the donkey was killed instantly.

The tactic, which the IDF called "despicable," is not new, and has been used by Hamas and other Palestinian factions as far back as 1995. In June of that year, a Palestinian suicide bomber rode a donkey cart full of explosives toward an IDF post west of Khan Yunis. He detonated the explosives, killing himself and the donkey. No IDF troops were injured in the blast. Hamas later claimed responsibility for the failed attack.

Israeli military officials said the tactic is not dissimilar to Hamas' use of "human shields" to protect missiles and other critical military apparatus.

"They used this donkey as a human shield, or an animal shield, if you like," Major Arye Shalicar, an army spokesman, told The Telegraph (UK).

"Anything, an animal or an international building, that can help make use of innocent people or international [citizens], they will use it. We see it time and again."

Donkeys are plentiful in Gaza, and as the IDF has begun ground operations in the area, many Palestinians have used them to move their possessions away from conflict zones.

IDF reported that other donkey-assisted attacks have occurred in 2001, 2003, 2009, and 2010. The 2009 attack also involved horses, several of which were carrying mines and other explosives.

Many IDF soldiers, as well as American soldiers in Iraq, have also reported that dogs — both alive and dead — have been used in bombing attempts, sometimes strapped with explosives, and other times with improvised explosive devices (IEDs) surgically implanted in their bellies.

Yeah, i know what you mean but in this case i don't really see what the protesters want. Like i don't see what our government can do other than send in the army and surely these would be the same people protesting another war.

Imo 'showing solidarity' is just another way of saying 'ooo look at me i am such a good person wow look how much i care about people'

Your government can divest, first and foremost - same way many nations boycotted any kind of investment in South Africa when apartheid was in place which helped things change there.

I don't know if you guys have been following the UN security council but literally every country represented except USA has been blowing Israel out
http://webtv.un.org/

Best Korea called for the blue helmets

Edit: and Bangladesh compared them to the sizan

Obviously the US of A will veto any resolution likely to have some kind of effect... Oh well

Take it with a pinch of salt. Internet propaganda warfare has been intense on this particular conflict

this makes me angry. angry and frustrated.

angry that the bullets fired, the bombs dropped are often from switzerland.
frustrated that i'm an alliance to israel without wanting to be one.

that's why i would reclaim the streets to show my solidarity to palestine and my rejection of the perverted politics ''neutral'' switzerland is doing.

i'm sure you will find more than enough reasons to go on the streets in your country.
relax. hamas gets financed through swiss bank accounts so we're facilitating hatred and killing on both sides. so basically this makes switzerland neutral again.

it's funny how swiss economy is profiting from this war whilst swiss gov gets to look nice since their diplomats have been working on most of the "peace treaties" to date. best of both worlds, innit.

blergh.

well i do differentiate between a bank account and weapons.
a bank account doesn't kill children.

(and yes i know, they probably buy weapons too with that money)

three commercial planes in a week the israelis have brought down to distract the world from their war crimes.

that neo izan zionist wanker netanyahu going on about prolonged offensive and something about continuing to act "aggressively and responsibly" (or some shit....oxymoron?? regular moron?????)

more palestinian children killed today, playground bombed by israel (who then blamed it on hamas, naturally). images of gaza are looking pretty horrific right now.

on the other hand

approx 4 rockets were fired at israel today, none of which penetrated israel's defence systems. no damage or injuries reported at all.

israel whinging that 48 of their facist zionist soldiers have been killed (for whom i have absolutely no pity) when 1,000 + palestinian _civilians_ have been murdered

jesus

Certainly not, but one of the perverse effects this confict is that all the 20 year old conscripted soldiers really do is fire artillery, like during an exercise. It's like Waltz with Bashir all over again.

It has also made clear that there is a growing schism in israeli society: the pro-war now call the pro-peace "leftists" (lol) and are lynching them at peace rallies. That's what 20 years of Likud does.

Add to that the complete debacle of israeli public relations: the foreign minister reacted to Brazil's comments of "disproportionate force" by bringing up the 7-1 humiliation of the world cup. That's some grade school level of diplomacy.

We should not forget the Israelis who just want to live in peace, would like a 2 State solutions and don't give in to the populistic slogans of Bibi and his goons.

plenty of men in israel defect and go to prison instead of invading a country and killing civilians

The most depressing thing about the whole Gaza thing is people picking sides like its a game of fifa and arguing about it like its a game.. forgetting actual lives are being completely destroyed.

Its crazy how detached from reality humans can be sometimes.

Yep, this.

Humanity still has a long way til it learns no piece of land is of equal value to human life.

Having said that, motherfuck Israel right now. It's an ugly dispute/conflict all round and always has been, but they're really pushing the boat-full-of-cunts out at the moment.

ye pretty intredasting article......

IMHO

#1 writing as if people dont think the actions of ISIS or assad were/are deplorable./... ? :/

#2
Denying religion's role seems to be a way to be able to criticize the politics while remaining apologetically "respectful" of people's beliefs for fear of "offending" them. But is this apologism and "respect" for inhuman ideas worth the deaths of human beings? [....] It's 2014, and religions don't need to be "respected" any more than any other political ideology or philosophical thought system. Human beings have rights. Ideas don't.

yea!! this x100000

#3 kinda disregarded a lot of things that people in the israeli govenrment have said, shit like 10000 palestinian lives being worth less than one israeli's toenail clippings. kill all mothers that birth palestinian snakes etc etc. im sure plenty of palestinians have said the similar things though. but u kno, their country has been illegally occupied for centuries n shit. they get forced out of their homes by "settlers" etc.... id be pissed off too. still tho i dont think id be wishing death on them but ¯\(°_o)/¯

#4 cant disagree with that

#5 is it not an occupation when u fence people in like farm animals? is it cos theres not israeli armed forces inside gaza? im confused here ^^

#6 and eye for an eye etc. if the stupid stnuc would stop firing rockets at each other for 2 seconds maybe soemthing could get done. isreal's got that anti rocket defence system, they could easily be the bigger man and stop firing rockets first. unfortunately with the ppl like netanyahu in the israeli govt i couldnt see that happening. instead the choose to invade and kill more people. which is gonna provoke more retaliation and hatred... wheres the sense in that???? its an ideological/religious thing (as point #2 said) imo
The reason fewer Israeli civilians die is not because there are fewer rockets raining down on them.
<- but thats clearly innacurate atm with the quantity of air strikes n shit going on over gaza

#7 really though, who's going to choose the side of the oppressor instead of the oppressed?
to decry the actions of a facist government and side with the oppressed people of palestine doesnt automatically mean that ur siding with hamas, or justifying them firing rockets n shit.

Israel was carved out of Palestine for Jews with help from the British in the late 1940s
[/quote]
also didnt britain oppose the creation of israel for a long time until it was pressued into creating it by USA?
