Solaris (1972) > Moon > Solaris (2002)

No, I'm talking about the russian Tarkovsky original from the 70s
And I'm just pointing out that Moon comes across a lot better, if you don't get to realize that all of it is basicly put together from equal parts 2001 and Solyaris + a great acting performance/theater monologue.

Gravity is a shitty version of 2001.
To me that's the whole basis to judge it on. The standards of the past.
I get what you mean i'm just not going to accept that it is going to be generally worse today because it's easy to throw some disney club kids that are grown up now onto a green screen. There are still genuinely great films being made in the RIGHT

tradition like the lives of others, where no corners are cut.

Kick started the neo-noir market
wat
neo noir has been around for ages
drive was good and i definitely rate it up there in my top ten but it didnt really have much cultural impact at all, just turned some people including myself into gosling fanboys
place beyond the pines was good too
idk if oldboy was this decade but that was an amazing film for sure

yeah but you said it kick started it assuming it was never popular til drive which is rubbish
sin city and road to perdition came out before drive and were equally if not more popular

You're jumping to conclusions about how I meant it, but I see the point you're trying to make.

enter the void sucked, that movie was laughable, especially the end. and ''i'm not there'' made absolutely no sense.
i thought valkyrie was a fun movie going experience, you know. we were on the ''edge of our seats''. ..is he gonna get caught, whats gonna happen next etc. it was fun to watch compared to alot of the other stuff out there at that moment.

Moon is a brilliant film, loved it. Same with Drive. Dunno about 2 of the best films of the last decade though. Garths list is pretty solid.
Looking at my imdb ratings i'd have to go Dead Mans Shoes & The Prestige.
Worth a mention: The Departed, Django Unchained, Batman Begins, Dark Knight, Inception, Stuart A Life Backwards, Black Dynamite, The Sea Inside, Tyrannosaur.. plenty more.
For documentary film - Inside Job
Couple years before the decade but Memento would beat all those imo. Original Oldboy, Requiem for a Dream and Waking Life just miss out by a few years that would definitely be up there.

Right now I'll say There Will Be Blood and Before Sunset. Probably be different if you asked me tomorrow, ranking stuff is hard

Departed is a remake though. Where the original is better

Inception is arse too. It's what people who only watch hollywood pop corn movies think is deep
