I think most record buyers listen to the records themselves rather than reading the reviews. Possibly.

I've never heard a more stupid thing in my life. Liten before perchase? Where's the fun in that?

most of the "reviews" are just rehashes of the press release.

yeah.

but when they're not, they're being honest. its not cool to reveal peoples samples, not cool at all. but its still true that there's a lot of mediocre shit coming out.

A tad off topic, but Boomkat related...

Do any of you lot know if they send things out 1st Class recorded or 2nd Class recorded (if there is such a thing?)?

I ordered a load of stuff and apparently it was posted last Friday, however I've received some stuff off discogs that was sent later and has arrived this morning. This concerns me slightly.

I've always received stuff 1st class recorded, don't think they do 2nd class. If it doesn't turn up in the next few days ask them for a proof of posting. Could be royal mail up to their usual tricks.....

You probably need not worry. I think it's just the postal delay due to the strike etc. It will come in due time :)

Anyway I quite enjoy their reviews. They're perfectly entitled to put essential purchase and killer 12" at the end - as it is a shop and it probably does help sales somewhat. The boomkat folks are all fairly sound people who are completely passionate about their music, and I'm glad this comes across in their reviews and that they don't hold back. My only gripe (even though it is fair enough in a way) is that they favour baked goods releases too highly simply because a few of them run baked goods themselves. Having said that baked goods is putting out some of the most interesting labels at the moment - Tectonic, Modern Love, Type.

man, i can;t believe people even care.

If a record shop is willing to put in the time to write anything about a tune, then that's already above and beyond the call of duty in my book. And if its incredibly opinionated, all the better!

how would you all feel if the reviews read like this

"This is a dubstep record. There is quite alot of bass once it gets going and the hihat noise is cool. Its like CHAK CHAK CHAK in-your-face business. wicked. Bass sounds like a bear burping underwater. Bad."

i find boomkat are the worst for delivery(postal strikes aside) even tho they're based closer to me than redeye & chemical. Normally takes them 2 or 3 days more than the others to send my records.

Their reviews are generally good hardly ever buy stuff off boomkat tho

I think they get their postie to walk from manc to whereever the records have to go to, my orders invariably arrive around thursday even though I will have placed the order on the thursday or friday before.

I sometimes wish there were other postage options even if it means paying for them when you spend more that £50

Ouch,
That's below the belt man!
Boomkat now has my 100% support, purely to show solidrity in the face of southern pansies who cry when their record never gets sent.
Furthermore the idea of a southerner preaching about 'good honest service' is laughable, were the one's with the integrity and grit and don't you forget it.

I got the same message regarding an lp I was trying to order. I sort of thought it was their way of being humouristic or so.
I guess it could have been kind of joke... but not if your on the recieving end

Dubloke - the "you'll get over it" thing is a standard template message they send out any time they're out of stock for any record.

It's pretty weak though innit. Boomkat are the Innocent Smoothies of record shops - the actual product is great but allow all the plastic chatty, focus group-researched every-man banter; you're a shop, not my best friend.

It would be funny to see a monthly chart of "favourite boomkat reviews"
