it did nothing to dnb
it's just people talking on message boards
nobody really takes any notice

Clownstep != Clowncore.
Neither is particularily my cup of tea. Ed Cox is mainly breakcore with accordian over the top, didn't know he did dubstep stuff as well.

People went nuts for it when he played in Edinburgh, horses for courses I guess. Probably hilarious if you're suitably sedated.

in most circumstances I would agree
but this forum practicaly defines Dubstep online in any case
put dubstep in google for example..
and how many hits/lurks do we get a day here, something insane isnt it?
im just scared good folks wont find their place here coz its a battleground for armchair critics and devils advocates, and the bad guys will come and pick fights.

It's amazing that people can get so worked up over a genre of music.
I think it's just a reflection of the type of people that go on music forums generally- a lot of them have lives that are more dominated by music, they think about it more, they want to discuss it and define it and I suppose ultimately in a sense control it.
But I don't think this forum is perhaps as representative as it once may have been of the 'scene'. Go to most big nights and the dissenting voices on this forum would amount to a quite small group of people standing at the back moaning and sighing in time to the wubwubs.
I suppose there's a lot of anxiety in the strength of that dissent, and it will probably escalate if a status quo becomes more established in the music- after all, nobody wants to become marginalised. For me the question has never ultimately been about whether or not I think a certain kind of tune is shit- as Blackdown said in that thread about macho wobbler tunes, it's about a question of balance. I've never liked everything dubstep had to offer, even in 2005 when the standard was (imo) generally higher- but what I liked was that what I did like was given as much room as what I didn't. I don't think anybody wants or expects to control the direction the music goes in, but people can't be expected not to express their concern or anxiety over what they perceive as the possible marginalisation of deeper more atmospheric and rhytmically interesting music. I agree though that terms like 'clownstep' don't really help anyone, just as the term 'neekstep' (generally found in dnb though not yet in dubstep- although how long will that take if 'clownstep' is already being thrown about?) doesn't help anyone.
There are plenty of producers, DJs and nights catering for those people who don't want to hear wall to wall wobblers and dubstep is in a very healthy state really. But then I suppose even that is showcasing a split.
Ahhh neurosis! Bring on the bonkers conkers

Innit.
How many people are actually genuinely hating on wobblers / bangers / whatever? People keep implying that loads of people are saying "I HATE TEH WOBBLE RUSKO CAN FACK OFF INNIT" when mostly they're just saying that they wouldn't mind, y'know, hearing a bit more diversity at certain nights.

Well said Corpsey, especially "Go to most big nights and the dissenting voices on this forum would amount to a quite small group of people standing at the back moaning and sighing in time to the wubwubs"
At a recent night while very quickly going for a piss during a fantastic set, I couldn't believe that there were a group of people actually standing in there discussing 'real dubstep' and bitching about god knows what. WTF??? And, there was me feeling guilty for leaving the floor for 2 mins...
