i think its funny that somone mentioned running synths and such through guitar amps, because the hardware/software argument is very similar to the argument between guitar players regarding solid state vs. tube amps( in that people seem to think one gives a warmer tone)

there are only so many scenarios you can put software through in beta. If the big corporationy people in their big corporationy buildings held back on to releases until they were bug free then nothing would get released.
Most of the fixes come from the feedback from everyday users.

Difference between solidstate and valve is actually quite enormous though. Warmer isn't the appropriate word for valves, bigger or fuller would be more appropriate. It has something to do with how the two components actually amplify the sound and valves end up bringing out the harmonics and overtones much clearer.

Also, valves are way more powerful. I have a 100W valve head and it is louder at 1/3 of it's volume than my mates 400W solid state Marshall.

very true. i personally have never owned a tube amp, but you are right, warmer was kind of a misleading term to use. the arguments just struck me as similar in the way that people debate it, and in some respects the price differences.
