true for me.... feel connected with both, definitely works for me...listening to Loefah, Kode 9 and Burial while doing a piece was perfect

i have to say i am very suprised how many over writers are on this forum.

dunno a link sorry, but its from an interview in HHC, #191, July 2005.

in another interview, in waxpoetics, he talks about the 'casual' link between 1st wave writers & b-boys. The link is def. there, but at the time, esp pre-masterpiece, the signature writers were very much a mixed bag. Obviouslly people would have been goin to the park jams etc, but just as many where prob sat at home drawin to Led Zep & Sabbath as relaks mentioned.

I observed the same thing locally, when I was 11-12, just as many writers in the north / north-west of Adelaide where metalheads - black jeans & metallica etc. as were "b-boys"

relaks; I think it does matter. Lookin at something like pixacao in sao paulo, where the primary drive behind style has been (almost) mostly local, instead of mass/media based, I think style could be movin alot quicker. Alot of "graff" is deeply nostalgic & completly lacking in the innovation of the first wave, the essential problem is, as phase 2 says:
"we shouldn't let others control how it's perceived and conceived, ... this infantile media concocted label, like that word that they slapped on this culture. ..."

To be as forthcoming as possible --

Graffiti to me is about one thing and one thing only. I've met many of the people I look up to and respect in the graffiti scene (phase 2 included, he lives not far from me, as interesting a guyI do not agree on many of his points) and the general idead is this- Graffiti is about letters and letters only. Pretty simple. All else comes secondary (sorry if I offend any charcter lovers). This is not the only opinion, just what I subscribe to.

Nostalgia in graffiti is not a bad thing. The roots of graffiti is where everything is strongest. Soul and style are sorely lacking worldwide. Or maybe I'm getting bitter....

I've very much appreciated brazilian graffiti. And Australian. But letter strength and style always come first.

Maybe we should move this to Off-Topic... it's getting pretty far from dubstep at this point.

By the way, I'm very far from being an active writer these days, the occasional piece, just marker tags here and there. So I'm not the best example.

i think graf has fuck all to do with dubstep....since the real style master TRACY 168 started all this shit in n.y in 1970..its 2006 and lads paint walls with montana mail ordered off the net..its gay .. and not WILDSTYLE.

not strictly speaking graff, and not strictly speaking all dubstep inspired.. i work as an illustrator, and some of it comes from graff roots, some of it comes from elsewhere. as far as i'm concerned, whether it's graff / art or music - the more outside infuences the better. just my opinion..
