i think it could be a good idea but it needs to be edited a bit more heavily so the two genres can mesha bit more. the vex'd/distance mix was really well done and had a constant atmosphere, but this one has good moments, gimmicky bits (the burzum and lil wayne thing doesnt really work apart form as a joke) and maybe is a bit too far reaching in including stuff like Panda Bear (from Animal Collective) which doesnt fit under either catagory. i think maybe theyd have to make new tracks which have aspects of both sounds (140bpm, half step or 2 step syncopation with double pedal bass kicks, buzzing midrange guitars and minor gothic melodies) for the concept to be done justice.

I don't think anybody is trying to invent a new genre here. Deathstep is just a name they came up with for a club night - in Oslo! From actually having read the interview on 3BarFire the Lil Wayne and Burzum blend is political in the sense that Varg of Burzum is totally against race mixing to put it mildly. So if Spykidelic, who is black was prone to just playing straight Burzum in his sets he'd be a bit of a dick now wouldn't he? I dunno, maybe he his, he seemed nice when I met him.

Also the Seefeel track on Deathstep Part 1 is awesome! I only knew their more guitary stuff but that tune sounds like something Hyperdub would put out now. Here's to more genre raping and pillaging, fuck the purists!
Oh man I love Seefeel!! Been listening to them for must be 15 years now. I have so much love them.

After some digging around I discovered that Spykidelic actually did a project some years ago involving members of Seefeel called Echo Park for Lo Recordings. Fuck, I sound like his PR!

Anyway, being an inhabitant of Oslo, I'm just grateful for him, the Shit City Tek crew and The Villa club for playing Dubstep, in whatever form, in Oslo. You people in London get so spoilt with music that all you can do is moan and nick-pick about sub-divisions. John Peel would surely weep.

Just checking. Sounds interesting. Thanks for the heads up.

i read the interview as well, and can appreciate what hes doing with the political side of things (postmodernist mashup vs fascistic "purity"), i dont think hes a dick for doing it i just think the idea is very good and could be developed in those ways (and i hope it does get developed because i love black metal and i love dubstep). to be honest if there was a clubnight here in london that played that mix of music i would go to it cos i like all the music he mixs in there individually. you could do really interesting things with some of burzums minimal electronic stuff also.
needless to say burzums politics are fucked and make it problematic listening to the music for me, which is really some of the best of its kind.

LOL @ Transilvanian Hunger
How about Scorn?
Scorn is great but I'm thinking trad bm has a very low production aesthetic, where basslines are barely heard never mind made the focus of the music. I think this reason amongst others puts it at odds with dubstep. Experimental metal now, that might work better when combined with bass and all that.
Still, a fine mix and an interesting listen overall.

The name "Deathstep" is just a joke... But I liked the idea... It's rare to see DJs mixing "atmospheric" tracks with beats... Or no beats at all...

I can't like this music based on it not sounding cool to chicks lol
I guess "Funky" and "Wonky" are better terms because it works better when you call up your girl and ask her out. Dubstep is all about the ladies you see. And never mind Deathstep, I heard Oneman on MAH and he mixes up vocal garage and Dubstep to create a sound that sounds like, well 'em, old garage. Nu-2-step I guess?
