generally used by people when they make a rash decision in the middle of a argument

actually, generally used by people when there is a certain person who continually either a) offends them, b) annoys them, c) picks fights with them.
it just makes it so you don't have to read their posts.

It would be nice if people stopped posting "BAGGED!!!

" and similar shit in the "In the shops now thread"
It makes me think "oooooh, new post on the release thread! Maybe its that tune i've been waiting 2 years for!" Only to find that its some fool extolling some wub wub bait record.
There are only so many times my hopes can be raised and dashed each day.

No matter what you suggest - it probably wont be done.
Especially switching over to vBulletin (which you have to pay for by the way).
And the more shit you start adding to something, the more it becomes sluggish and shit - look at facebook and myspace. FUCK YOU SLIDE.

I have a license that I will donate happily to Dubstepforum if they'll make the switch. I don't want a TON of features. Most of what I want is built in, and there are a few things that I'd want to add, such as posting tunes and stuff, which ideally you would team up with Dubstepforum to help out with, since you were talking about shared resources and all.
That would be great if I never had to visit another "free file hosting" site and wait for a fucking countdown to conclude to download a tune or something. And really, the risk of infection from malware and the like is extremely high with those services.
I'm trying to be constructive here and there are several people trolling about, eh?
So how about it... a fully licensed, legit and legal copy of Vbulletin with the necessary hacks pre-installed. Shit, I'll personally install it myself if they need help doing it, even. I know more than a little php.

Integration would be nice and all - however moving from one forum software to another is a big step and probably has more cons to it than pros.

You can actually move the members over quite easily, all posts, all post history... everything. It's very simple. The only con is that someone would have to install it and have a moderately slim level of PHP knowledge. If you can install a PHPBB, you can install Vbulletin. It's not hard at all. The hacks and stuff like that are significantly more difficult in some cases to install, requiring a fair amount of coding knowledge. If you back up your databases(and you fucking should be anyway, even if not switching forum software) then there is zero risk.
So for no financial risk, no actual physical risk to the server or the posts or the user database, etc... it makes no sense to pass up on a free license.
So please, make up another reason why it's a bad Idea. Shit, there's even a theme that looks exactly like PHPBB Subsilver, should you be so inclined to want some crap like that. Otherwise, there are about 50 hacks that need to be made to the PHPBB software to even come close to the factory features of Vbulletin. This is free for a reason.

phpBB is not free. It's open source. Best thing about open source is, if someone encounters a bug - any old joe will fix it and put it back into the community.
Same applies with the Linux and Windows arguments.
vBulletin and Invision Power Board are commercial products, if something breaks you have to wait for someone to make a quick fix and then wait for an official update to the forum software - and if you donate a license then thats another risk that could affect the forum - if for some reason you got banned for being a tnuc you could revoke your license as really you have full control. Who says you wont get banned, but I know for a fact you won't continue paying for something you cant use.
vBulletin might have a handy bunch of features but they probably won't get used because people are already suited to using third party applications such as MSN messenger and AIM.
Just leave it as it is, forum is fine, everyone is already adapted to the process. Swapping over to a new forum will just create more downtime and a whole new teething process and like someone said above - 99% of the people on this forum don't have a clue what we are talking about and probably couldn't care less.
Also if you know a bit of PHP then you obviously don't know enough. Can't be having sloppy code hindering the performance of a huge community like this one.

1. Yes it is free.
2. I can think of at least 5 known exploits that can be used against this forum NOW, and I know they work even with the latest build of PHPBB. Vbulletin has an active community of people who work on it, even as a commercial app. You obviously have never run one.
3. vBulletin (Owned License)
The owned vBulletin Forum license allows you to run the software on your site indefinitely. Along with this license, you will receive one year of free updates. Beyond the first year, a nominal fee of $60 (or $40 if purchased within 60 days of the license expiring) is payable to obtain updates for an additional year.
4. Already paid for for life, how could I revoke something that I no longer own... if I transfer the license, it's gone.
5. vbulletin has a bunch of features that would get used... like ignoring you, for instance.. I'd use that on day one.
6. Your arguments fall flat. It takes less than 20 minutes to install Vbulletin on your server and you can do it WHILE THIS FORUM STAYS UP.. Then you transfer the members list and the SQL stays put. It's like 20 minutes. There'd be less than 20 seconds of that as downtime.
Again... I have the license if anyone wants to install it.

Please do lock the thread. Lock the other one as well. And I don't see how rooting a free forum server with know exploits makes anyone a badass.

If it has known exploits I am sure it would have been hacked already, along with the million of other installs.

totally 100% agreed on this. simplicity is ace!
also, phobang... not saying there is anything wrong with encouraging a little constructive criticism, but since you joined mid august, are you sure you've had long enough to decide what you do and don't like about the forum? not trying to imply membership longevity elitism in anyway way shape or form... just wondering if maybe things would become more cool for your user experience over time?

PHPBB is a lot older than August. I've used it and know it's flaws and weakness. Normally things become less cool over time, not the other way around.
And Ashley, go and google "known phpbb exploits"
then go and google "powered by phpbb"
now go down the list and run your new sploits.
Have fun. Simply put, running exploits on this server is like beating up someone is special ed. Anyone can do it and nobody will think you are cool because you can, because anyone can do it. Really, it's time you shut the hell up, tbh.
Like I said long ago, someone please lock this and that other thread. They no longer need to exist. I've already given about 50 reasons why any software, even UBB CLASSIC IS BETTER THAN PHPBB!!!
You've not disproven a single one.

Like Ness said, you have only been here for just over a month and you want to start changing things already when alot of people have been here for over 3 years and they don't complain about anything.
Nothing is going to be changed. Stop your petty threats about exploits - you think people can't fix exploits that are easily googleable?
This is dubstepforum - clue is in the name. I am sure if they wanted messengers and tools to upload music it would have been called MYSPACE.
Piss off. Trying to take man for a mug think I don't know what I am talking about. eeeeedjiat.
