Yea so did I. Lots of Breakcore, Jungle, DnB etc. Sporadic beats, rhythms and melodies that were ever changing.
There's only so much you can get out of that. Sometimes consistency is more enjoyable than randomism

And, cheers. Glad someone is on my wavelength ;)
There's power and cheekiness in wobble. I dunno what it is about it...
Sort of like the first time I heard an amen break and thought "fuck yes... that's where I wanna explore next (music wise)."

Rob Sparx wrote:I'm not saying you can't play a Burial tune out - Skream finished with Archangel last time I was @ FWD which sounded spot on. But I'm saying most of the tunes he's written (1st 2 albums) arent meant for playing in the peak of a set
perhaps dubstep is about being more opening minded about the impact and moods of a set, about bucking the "always smash it" mentality sets from other genres have.

sure, the sequencing of burial's drums make them difficult to mix but i think there's a message in his sound about the importance of emotion over impact that you're missing.

I'd love to hear more music with lots of emotion that also smashes it - is that too much to ask 4?

Surely it's just a different emotion? Tracks with impact trigger a euphoria and and rush of adrenaline when dropped in a club - whereas tracks like Burial's trigger a different emotional euphoria that make you want to cry on the shoulder of your mate (joking!). It's just different emotions, although some of the emotions need a collective club environment to be triggered - one emotion is more introverted and the other more extroverted.

Although I agree some tracks lack any emotional response at all - but they're tracks that simply don't work in any context.

Don't get me wrong I love Burials tunes I just thinks they're gonna work a lot better on the dancefloor when I've done my own mixes of them to play out!

Nope - Go download my debut EP "The DFRNT Engine" - you might find something you like! (Then again, you might not...)

I wouldn't say those tunes "smash it" - way too mellow for that - but they're definately very sweet productions indeed, very epic!!

Love your Mongoose Remix!! Using the original mix of that in a 1hr electro mix for 10 Sui's show on Ministry next month (as Dirty Thieving Mongrels) - great to hear that sort of influence in dubstep, I'm well into my trippy as fuk progressive electronica type shit! Let me know if u do any Trentemoller Bootlegs!!

me too, personaly i like to hear it all in a night depending on time and i still dont see why you cant play all over the shop propa journey styles

with some clever placement of tunes you can make wobble haters appreciate wobble and deep haters appreciate deep.

also it realy is about personal preference not what others think you should or shouldint do , i had a wee confrontation about this very thing not so long ago some other djing telling me what i should play .... needless to say i told him ta fuckoff.

to me the importance is the timing of tunes you play .
