@ dubstepz: i nobody is going to jsut hand you some magical bass making technique so you can fulfill your fantasy trying to become the next skream.
From listening to your myspace (
http://www.myspace.com/blacklotusdub) I doubt you have any ''magical bass technique'' to share man....
I appreciate Skreams sound but it doesn't really influence or inspire me.
I am not searching for a magical technique.
I just thought
I would discuss techniques as I am new to dubstep.
If this is not allowed on a dubstep production forum then laaateeer
I am currently high passing everything above 80hz excluding the bass. (sometimes 60 on the kick)
I am going through the long process of high passing the bass at 250 and 80 and ending up with three diff frequency areas to process as audio.
I use waves maxx bass on the sub to get the bass pumping on smaller speakers, Distortion on the mid and get the lfo/reverb/chorous/flange etc involved in the high.
This is not a formula but something I regularly do.
Then I send them to the same buss and compress them to gel them together.
How do you guy's go about it?
I am starting to get the feeling this forum is a load of noise and not much content on the production side.
If this topic has been discussed please post a link... I can't find anything.
Safe

He wanted a response.
His stuff is good, im not one to mug of other peoples work - but the bass is not waaammmmmpin from what I can hear so him refusing to share his magical technique does not worry me.
I have read other threads on the forum man and there is good stuff and also a load of shit so I understand why you may get pissed with bass topics.
I could not find anything specific to what im asking though.
Anybody going to answer or are you just blowing hot air?

all bullshit aside..
if you have a basic concept of production (hiphop, electronica, dnb) you can apply any of those techniques to dubstep
there is no magic "dubstep" bass sound
oh wait...
that is a preset on Massive tho, innit?

Thought so.
Massive is over rated and a drag on the cpu. Presets are a load of shit and the reason why alot of stuff sounds the same.
Still waiting for the link covering this topic that you are so pissed of about me starting.
Im
NOT asking how to make bass.
I am simply interested in your techniques and workflow and perhaps I can apply it to what im currently doing.

Im not really trying to replicate anything.
I am just interest in your bass workflow and processing.
Those threads are too basic and broad.
I don't want a step by step dubstep tutorial...

DZA - fuck of man. You are clearly a total mug with nothing to contribute.
Assuming somebody production knowledge is quite irritating.

I have a direct question to you DZA...a test to justify your attitude
1.How many DB do you compress the bass by?
2. What ratio do you tend to use?
3. Where do you high pass the kick?
4.How do you prevent the mid frequencies of the bass conflicting with the pad's and lead?
5. What is your favorite distortion plug in?
6. What effect's to you like to use as well as distortion?
7. What do you find the best quantize swing setting is in Logic/ your sequencer for hat's?
8. What do you have on your master bus and in what order?
9. How do you give the bass and kick their own space?
10. When you EQ, do you put level's up or take unwanted area's down?
Answer those and post some bass that impresses us then I think you have a right to be an asshole.

ok then
here is the short version of how I do
MY thing.
I use Nuendo to sequence and Guru for my drums. almost all my bass sounds are from my novation Xstation hardware
I begin by making a beat in ze guru
I then play a little bass riff to accent ze beat
I record said bass riff on a MIDI track, assign that MIDI track back to the hardware synth
I then modulate the bass with ze knobs on the hardware synth and when I find something I like, I record the MIDI for that on the same track as on ze MIDI notes.
adjust these parameters within the controller lanes (under the notes in ze MIDI track)
when I am happy with what I got...
I create an Audio track (in mono, cuz it's bass)
select the SPDIF input on my interface, arm ze track and record
I then pack ze bowl and grab ze lighta
now that I have shared that little bit of informations with you....
I am curious to hear your technique
GO!

I am currently high passing everything above 80hz excluding the bass. (sometimes 60 on the kick) Of course the mid range and higher's have much higher cut levels.

I use a little phatty and waldorf pulse mainly for bass. The LFO and effect automation is done completely in Logic because I hate MIDI CC shit and like the flexibility of doing it in the box. I love the sound of the auto - filter in Logic and camel phat is heavy too.
I have started building higher end's of bass lines in Predator and use the phatty for the real low's.
Drum's:
I start off with making a hat groove on the machinedrum. I make about 4 diff 16 bar variations and bounce then down. I use Vengeance samle cd's for the kick's and snares.
