Some people are just interested in making music for now that will sell and look cool.
Dont watch that! try making something unique and if its good people will like it for much longer.

I guess it really depends on the angle that you approach things, if popular dance floor bangers are what you are after then it will probably be more easily achieved with popular sounds like wobble. If you want to make something more individual\original then chances are it won't be as popular, at least not at first... but of course everything is subject to exceptions!
