Blackdown: I just hope the spirit of that multiculturalism and a lot of the soundsystem and Jamaican culture that you guys have brought through stays with the sound.

Loefah: Do you think itÂ’s understanding of Jamaican culture or do you think itÂ’s an understanding of London culture? Because I would argue for the latter.

Blackdown: OK how about ‘soundsystem’ culture?

Loefah: I dunno, I wouldnÂ’t say I know a huge amount about soundsystem culture and what I do I know because of jungle. And IÂ’ve learnt about jungle because of London. IÂ’ve learnt a lot about dub since IÂ’ve been doing dubstep. I knew a bit before but I think weÂ’re writing beats that we would naturally write because of the sounds that have surrounded us as weÂ’ve grown up. You can reference them but I donÂ’t think itÂ’s a Jamaican thing, not for me. Because IÂ’m not Jamaican and I havenÂ’t got a reference to Jamaica. We didnÂ’t chose DMZ to be held in Brixton because of the black population of Brixton, we chose that place [3rd Base part of Mass] because it has been responsible for the badest dances. Soul 2 Soul used to do a dance across the road. St MathewÂ’s church [aka Mass] is old school from London dub. Seriously though, a lot of dub was written in London. [/i]

boys, boys. cease wiv da handbags...

reelcash - links between dubstep and London are irrefutable. maybe you have your own personal context - involving hearing tunes, chatting on forum etc - but it's not a london one, and london is basically the source of dubstep. the context in the case of london is that the music syncs perfectly with the surroundings and, whilst this might also be the case with dubstep and poland as far as you're concerned, it's truer of london becaue dubstep is culturally borne of a whole lot of different stuff (jungle, soundsystems, 2-step etc etc) that arguably could not have come together to produce dubstep anywhere else but london.

no-one's advocating man playing one sort of tunes only (joe nice the best eg of how mixing it up works so well). tru enuff you can do what you like with a tune once you've bought it - call it breakstep/call it dubstep/jump up and down on it - but I don't think consumers have the right to tell long-standing heads who've put in the time/effort that allows you to her the tunes now what's what. mind yer manners innit (tho yours til better than sum on here...)

1. u really don't get what i was trying to say
2. dubstep is becoming not only london thing - as any other genre which originated in london - best example is jungle scene - where do they make best jungle nowadays? - in LA and Toronto and they don't give a shit about london
but I don't think consumers have the right to tell long-standing heads who've put in the time/effort that allows you to her the tunes now what's what. mind yer manners innit (tho yours til better than sum on here...)
1. who are u to judge my manners? ;)
2. i have the right to speak what i think and no one (even the god himself) can't do anything about it ;) - it's a discussion forum as far as i know so i'm trying to discuss - world stops when people stop to think in their own separate way
3. i'm not only a consumer - actually i'm not a consumer at all hahaha

now, now.

1. i do get what you were trying to say. i was just disagreeing.
2. no-1 is disputing your right to say what you want when you want. my comment about your manners would fall into much the same category (tho was a lot more lite-hearted than you took it)
3. i doubt very much that u, of the whole western world, have avoided becoming a consumer. if u have, pls fwd details of how accomplished.
4. oh yeah. whatever.

dunno about that... most of the new skool north american ragga Jungle is a joke. anda lot of US dnb is a mess.

as someone said earlier, and as Blackdown has expressed so well in his writing, D&B started to lose its way about the time it started to switch from a London or UK based culture into the global movement it is now.

thats not got anything to do with non-Uk heads making poor beats, or not appreciating the music. but have you noticed that the heads who have made the decent or inspiring tunes -for example Teebee, are those who understand and respect the music and its original context and culture.

like usuall but the best new ragga jungle tunes i've heard where from states

i disagree the best dnb acts ever (in my opinion) are not uk acts - makai, black sun empire, concord dawn, panacea and many many more
