I did not say, that two screens cost the same as a, lets say, SAE course (depends on the screen though).
A studio has more or less to grow with the needs a musician has (unless you plan to do it business wise, but then I would think more than twice about such an investment). If its for personal use, lets be honest then: Your music just doesn't sound like it needs a bunch of Avalon preamps, Neumann m150s mics and Manley EQs.

Nah, if your looking at the link below that's not the kind of stuff I would be making on the system. I make minimal tech house & electro house now, which does require (imo) some nice gear. I mean you should hear the pump of a 4 to the floor track through an SSL Quad compressor as apposed to your standard compressor in Logic. And if I can afford the equipment (which I can) then so be it. I mean you wouldn't tell a graffiti artist, you don't need all those different shades of red, or a motorbike enthusiast, you don't need all those Fireblades.

True but those people probably aren't dependent on knowing what is best for their chosen art upfront, Instead, they have an attitude, patience, and love for the process...The artists who succeed are the artists who just love that work and love difficult exploration, whatever their goal maybe.

I kind of agree with what others have said here - start of by spending a few grand on a decent basic setup, PC, soundcard, monitors, renting a good space, maybe a couple of shiny toys, and then add other stuff in when you have more of an idea of what you want. If you spunk 30K now on the coolest stuff you can think of and then realize later that you only use eight channels of that massive 32 channel desk but you aren't happy with your compression then you'll be screwed.

Btw, are you talking 'studio' as in "recording live bands for money" or as in "producing techno and stuff"?

why don't you take your 15 grand a buy a car / get a license and go on a bender like most people our age would do?

I dunno, seems like a lot of money to spend for something what might end up in a lot of loss than gain plus you gotta think about renting space, it being locked up tightly so stuff don't get nicked, acoustics, advertising (if you're recording bands or lending the studio for money). Just having 30k and saying lets get a studio .. isnt' that simple. I haven't read all the thread so someone might of said this already..

I'd rather buy a few little bits for my home studio and save the rest and wait till I have enough to not lose much..

I was in the same train carriage as him a couple of years ago. He was sitting in one of the luggage holders with his mates and a crate of Stella.

Even living with a morgage should be cheaper than renting in the short term.

In the long term, living rent/morgage free at a young age will allow you to save up and build a dream studio..... After years of production experience and industry link building etc :)

Enjoy it either way! :)

Isn't that enough to start your own label and make even more money doing what you love, whilst putting your tunes out too--rather than just equipment... 8)

but then you are 19, so your thinking is "fun" based, rather than "realistic" but as you can see from 3 pages of posts that a 30,000 studio is less than a good idea at this point in your life and production career :|

wish i owned the audio shop when you two walk in LOL

one of those mini beer fridges, a real pizza cooker, oh you'll need a chef with that, a sexy french waitress and a skinny, spotty american geekish kid to clean up afterwards
