this is essentially the point of "extremist groups" (hate that wording) that do these big attacks: 9/11, 7/7, Madrid etc etc...
the argument put forward is that we (in the west) know the stuff we do is wrong, yet do nothing. thereby making us legitimate targets, as we do not try to help them (and often add to there misery) and must therefore be there enemy, as well as our govt.
