the funny thing is people dont accept the way things really are. they always bitch about "how it should be". if most of you were to get into the position most of these politicians are in, you would do the same thing, or you would be shoved out of office. you cant tell the masses to not raise their hand against others bc the masses are fucking stupid and need to be treated like cattle. and as for the war, would you rather it be them or us. the whole peace thing is nice to think about, but it just is not realistic. and if you hate the way things are shut up , go to school, get into their system and try to fucking change it. otherwise you are just talking , not doing.

I'm interested in this kind of thing, especially the way (usually totalitarian) governments create or wildly overexagerate a problem in order to unite their societies against a common enemy. But the thing that really interests me most is how, in a very short period of time the goverment loses control of the lie and becomes a slave to it, and indeed begins to believe the lie themselves.

Things like th, so they start by inventing allegations about doctors but very quickly all of the different organs of state fall over each other to be seen as protecting Stalin the most, so each area tried to find more doctors that might possibly have done something suspicious. In the end vast numbers of doctors are executed for being unlucky enough to have been under suspicion for some spurious misdeed. Nobody can step in to stop the madness because if they did, the public would demand to know why the government wasn't protecting them from the killer doctors on the loose! The whole thing just spirals out of control. And Stalin says "bloody hell, they found 100,000 doctors WERE involved in a massive plot against me"! Once some enemy is invented, it takes moments for things to spin out of control.

As someone living in Japan, I meet a lot of people who say things along the line of "Kim-Jong-Il is obviously mad, Japan or America are obviously not plotting to attack North Korea, why doesn't he just give up?". But North Korea has been isolated for 50 years; probably 50 years ago some wag in a government propaganda office decide to exaggerate some claim that Japan was about to attack. In a totalitarian society that message would've been screamed out to as much of society as possible within a short period of time. And I'm guessing after about 2 weeks even the propaganda guy who made it up was believing it. And if that same message has been circulated for 50 entire years, you can bet nobody remembers it actually started as a lie and there's no wonder Kim Jong-Il thinks every move he makes that seems mad to the outside world is entirely rational to him.

So, er, I guess my point, which isn't really on topic, is that as states become more totalitarian and more scaremonging about real or imagined threats, paradoxically the less control they have over the general direction of the state, even if they do have micro-managing control over their citizen's lives.
