I went to play in a mate's club night a coupla months back... cost me 30 quid to get there, and I spent about 60 quid or so over 4 days, and they could only afford to pay me a tenner for it, so I wouldn't say I've made money off it :P But I had a fucking AWESOME time while I was out there, and playing my first club gig was made all the more sweeter when a guy I saw doing promos for 16Bit outside a Distance gig the night before came up and said he liked my set :D

^^ my experience has been a lot like that. i have made some money, mainly from doing live gigs but when you factor in how much you spent to get there etc you usually don't end up in front by much.

its all about value added. if you can create income somehow for the system, (bring people to the club that pay, sell digital releases on a label, etc) then you deserve to be paid for your work. if someone is profiting for what you do musically, you need a cut... PERIOD.
