Not until the release of the cd player they weren't. Novelty coasters they were before that came to be. Sorry if that's pedantic, but I enjoy being pedantic. I can remember when they came out and people were saying that they'd last forever, you could rub them in grit, pour acid on them, breastfeed them and give them to your cats to use as toys and it'd be perfect sound forever. They lied.

Was looking for a funny pic of the pope to attach to this, but he just looks like someone creepy in a dress that you wouldn't want to look after your kids. Then I found this

http://www.totallycatholic.com/contempo ... ewelry.htm

Really liked this gem - "the GODSTRONG band came from a bible study group, where one member was frustrated about swearing when angry. It was suggested to wear a rubber band and snap it when he used bad language. Within a week, he was a changed man! From this, the GODSTRONG accountability band was born. We are ALL faced with an onslaught of temptation to yield to sinful behavior. This accountability wristband is a constant reminder that we can overcome our challenges - with the help of Jesus. We are reminded to “Put on the whole armor of God” each day (from Ephesians 6:11). Colors available: Royal Blue, Pink, Glow in the Dark - $1.99 each"

I think a glow in the dark one would be quite fetching, and a small price to pay for not having to swear like a navvy at the drop of a hat. And this one's a bargain at $3.95 -

"Highly indulgenced crucifix! This lovely and distinct crucifix is highly indulgenced. Here are some of the wonderful promises attached to wearing it: Whoever carries on his person gains a partial indulgence. For devoutly kissing this Crucifix, a partial indulgence is obtained. Whoever at the moment of death, fortified by the sacraments, or contrite of heart, in the supposition of being unable to receive them, will kiss this Crucifix and ask pardon of God will gain a PLENARY INDULGENCE. His Holiness Pope Pius X, has declared that the Indulgences attached to this Pardon Crucifix are applicable to the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Comes in a package with an instructional card explaining it".

For around £2.50 for a blissful afterlife this has to be a bargain. A great Christmas gift for those atheists, agnostics, heathens and folks from different faiths that want to hedge their bets.

I for one can definitely hear the difference between 16bit and 24bit digital audio. This is a quite a major difference in resolution. It's quite well recognised that bass in particular sounds richer and warmer at 24bits, although the reasons for this are not necessarily as obvious as to why reverb tails will sound smoother.

This is one area where vinyl is going to win over standard CDs and MP3s at the moment. Even if a record is mastered from a digital file it will most likely be from a high resolution source, not to mention the additional information and voodoo introduced by high quality mastering equipment.

There's definitely something to be said for old records where the entire process (recording, mastering, duplication) has been analogue. At no point has the audio been quantised beyond the grain of tape / vinyl. Richness and fluidity is the result - it's intangible really, but when you hear it you know. 24bit resolution in digital can help to restore some of that quality. So yeah, regular CDs are not good enough IMO.

I noticed the evil emperor had the voice of the guy that did the Mr Kipling ads as well, which

a/ made him somewhat less than scary
b/ has made me wonder what goes into fondant fancies

"I'm worth waiting for" - lol. "Wee bit arrogant and sexually disappointing" might be a better motto for these true love waiters. Might need bigger wrists though (which might be quite likely if you're male and hanging on indefinitely for some action).
