Chimpo mcing will always be a bit gimmicky
I like how there's a community of artists based in one place that seems genuine (unlike the 130 keysound stuff which sounds just as gimmicky)

Not saying it's musically genius but it's fun stuff to party too

Doesn't take itself too seriously which is where I think most electronic music goes wrong

the dub phizix track that was a huge hit with the masks and all that was kind of trolly (i hope)

whereas ^^ seems to be sort of just boasty rap ...
I dunno I find that using distinct elements from another genre can (will almost always) become a gimmick...the reason its another genre than dnb is the way the focus is more on the rap (but thats strictly imo).
as a dnb track it's not that special tbh.... I feel I need to underline that dnb is really difficult to produce.

yeh I get that chimpo bit. always ound skittles stuff to be, as I thought, reflection of who he is, ginger manc chatting bare fast. not musical genius no but since he's repping him its fairly legit and not tongue in cheek. when I think of gimmicky rap i think of posh people rap parodies and maybe necro (though he believes it so dunno). oh and most of the uk hip hop scene up to, and including dirty dike and jam baxter.

No doubt, but the really amazing bits do take themselves seriously and thats more the problem. The standard.

Hip hop can be knocked out quickly because its so much about the vibe, music history and already thought out concepts that you then sample. ..

But yeah ultimately you're right. It's a sign of how shallow electronic in a way still is, when something as common as humour is hard to express. But thats because electronic music is still defining itself as an alternative to real music (atleast to 2½ thirds of the planet)

not heard either of those tracks. ive heard dot2dot and im a creator and thought they were fairly straight forward. i get parodies becoming gimmicky and certain angles but the blending of genres when done correctly is just flavour where seasoning may be need, or, filling in all the corners and gaps between genres.
