zowski - really like all the samples and shit at the start.. epic as fuck. first kick in clips. in general it sounds a bit muddy in the middle. the drums could punch through a lot more. i think each sound needs to be polished individually as the actually baseline is pretty nice, just needs a bit of crispness added to it.

Tom_ED - Intro is a little repetitive.. give it some longer movement over time with filters and such. once it hits its a little muddy for my taste.

difference - nice vibes and well balanced. all the elements have their own space etc. feels a little repetitive but i figure that with this kind of track its more about the subtlety etc… anyway. nice work

Toolman4
That drop is cool man but i think you should focus on the bass more and bring in that high synth a little less as the bass is really good!

darkdubz
feeling that intro and the drop is deep son! got me bouncing whilst listening.

The Jaft
I'm not a fan of the lfo speeds your using on the baseline.. sometimes less is more and you'd get a more solid baseline using just 1/8 1/12 and 1/16 synced nice and tight. needs a snare too (to go with the clap).

Ok... started this a few hours ago. Hitting up the whole 100bpm Glitch Hop / Koan Sound vibe. Is just an idea so im sure lots will come and go.

JTL Man that is FUNKY. I like it a lot. Your sounds all fit together perfectly IMO.

Burgeamon I love all your stuff. Glitch is awesome and this song is awesome glitch. The intro needs some more i think. That James Brown yell/scratch noise before the drop was awesome. I wanna hear this one done. Really nice track.

Zowski LOUDER!!!! But like you said it was probably the conversion to itunes. But the track is awesome so far. The intro reminds me of something excision would do.

So I am trying different VST's and some new techniques. Not all the way mixed and not EQ'd I don't think. And there is no sub yet.

Burgeamon - Really liking what I'm hearing. As a huge jazz / funk musician I dig the vibes on this one. The upstroked guitar chords sit in the back and hold the groove perfectly. The only gripe I have is that later on, I'm not a big fan of those electric weird sounds (just my opinion) I feel that they fit into the song just fine, and they sound mixed pretty well, but I'm just not partial to the sounds themselves. I really enjoyed that snippet. Also the drums could use a little color.

Gaol I'm not really into this style of dubstep, so that's probably why I'm not too crazy about the tune. I feel like it completely lacks everything that really makes a dubstep tune a dubstep tune. There really isn't any bass what so ever and the tune is centered around a really noisy midrange synth line, just not my cup of tea. Also the drum beat is really repetitive. Still, your track is much better than mine.

JTL Really feeling the direction of this tune. Really feeling the soulful R&B sample. Great feeling in the tune and great energy, something very unique and I really appreciate this sound. The only thing I could grip about is maybe the sounds sound a little bit thin or cheapish in a way? Not so much so that it ruins the tune, but just a little bit. Over all I really love this tune man, great job!

Okay here's my second tune, again going for a jazzy approach. Smooth chords, and a nice intense piano build up around the middle of the tune, I hope you like it. If you're into a lot of the newer noisy wobble fuck fest type stuff, you probably won't like this one.

Please listen to the whole thing and tell me what you guys think of the build up around the middle of the tune, is it too much? I have already started revising the song with some things here and there but I could really use your help guys!

Also, I'm incredibly horrible at making intros, so please excuse the poor intro on this.

@Cornbreadddd I will be adding bass soon enough. And yea the drums are really repetitive. I wanted to make something different than I normally make. I will make some changes tonight.

jtl: i like it. the drop is good aswell, from what i hear the mix is solid. nice

Burgeamon: sounds good so far, really like the reggae guitar.

Cornbreadddd: this is a nice track, im not intierly keen on some of the piano riff man. as for middle build up thing, its good reminds me of dj okawari. hes awsome if you havent heard of him. good stuff

this is one iv been on for a day or two, recorded some foley, keys and stuff :6:

@Cornbreaddd - Really nice tune. Try making the piano a bit more distant and work a bit on that melody. Otherwise than that, really good stuff. :)

@Burgeamon - Really nice snare and lovely groove. Intro needs a little work imo, but the hole structure of the track so far is great. The drums are amazing. Keep it up!

@JTL - That is something different indeed, and definitely in a good way! 3:28 sounds absolutely great and nice vocal work. Don't know how I would improve this really. :D

So heres mine. Still working on that Reign - Badman Sound Remix and this is what I got so far. :) Unmixed btw.

@Burgeamon love the raggae-ish feel of the beat and whatnot

@DubMikey diggin around the 0:40 point

My song has a burial-type feel to it I think. However, the low droning bass that kicks in after 1:55 is overpowering on subs but hardly audible on normal car speakers.
Any ideas as how to fix this?

Gaol: sick intro vibes! kick sounds a little artificial, really think you could benefit from a more natural hit... the vocals that come in around 1:32 are awesome, overall really good feel good vibes throughout... my only real suggestion is work on your percussion, thats really the only thing that stands out, imo. nice work man

cornbreadddd: come in easy with the hats, just think it sounds a little too in your face right off the bat. i love the melody you bring in, keys sound awesome, bassline is tight, really well put together. i also like the atmosphere to add some variation later in the tune. really the only thing that stands out with this tune is the percussion. i know i keep sayin this, but work on your hits a little and the track will def benefit!

th3reindeer: really awesome atmosphere... awesome progression from the beginning, i can appreciate the patience you had with the build, really effective. try toning down the sub and perhaps introduce a midrange bass layer to add character to your lower end.

my latest track... i've been trying to work through my tracks a little more rather than just stopping after one section after the drop... i dont think i have this one completely figured out yet, might can it and start something a little less "in your face" hahah... all feedback would be awesomely appreciated.

@dougriley bios - i think its pretty cool. is that a comb filter? its a nice sound but it feels like its not defined enough. like it could sound a little clearer or messed with to have a more cut sound. also the wobbles dont WOB hard enough. needs more of a transient.

@thereindeer - theres a kick there? cant hear one at all.. if your kicks coming in the same frequencies as ur sub then ur its going to drown it out completely. you should get a spectrum analyzer on your main, single the sub, look at the spectrum, then single your kick and look at its spectrum. try to decided which one you want to eq out to make room for the other.

@travis b - nice work.. sounds like something id hear in an ambient dub set. your levels all sound good and everything is clear and defined. maybe throw in some more random samples to add more atmosphere that work with your strings?

heres a tune of mine that i still want to mess around with but lots of it is finished.. let me know what u think plz

JTL wrote:REVIEWING AS I LISTEN:

@Zowski: Intro is tasty... holy shit. Sounds like Duke Nukem / Jurassic Park. OK initial kick clipped for me. Intro is RIDICULOUS. Woahhh.. that shit is deeeep. What are you using for your synths? Massive? Love the *ding* you've got. The FX/Samples are tight. Think you could change up the bassline perhaps? I cannot BELIEVE that was done on Garageband. Get yourself Logic/Ableton .. now!

@Tom_ED - Snare is already weak, as is the kick, layer layer layer.. unless of course that's what you're going for. Groans are nice and dark. Drum sequencing needs changing up, getting kinda monotonous. The synth on the drop is causing my speakers to clip. Too much resonance, nice sound though. Very chilled. Drums need changing up a bit, and some variance. Nice vibe though.

@Difference - Nice chords already. Snare needs reverb imo. Chords are sweet though. Nice ambience. SUB! Yeah get some verb on the drums man, will make ALL the difference. Percussively it's ok, could do with some variation perhaps. Becomes a little monotonous. Needs a vocal perhaps or a lead line to spice it up a bit? Ambience is nice though for real.

@ehbrums1 - It's ok, but have you tried getting some swing on those drums? Reverb on the piano is nice, but the melody is lacking accompaniment and the velocities are kinda off on the notes, unless that's what you were going for..

@darkdubz - Nice dub chords to start. Great ambience so far... sweet delay on those stabs. Nice vocal, ooooooo tasty sub. Yeah like this a lot. Great verb on the clap/snare. Sitting very well. NIce mixdown on it too. What's the dude saying?:) Yeah I dig this massively. Go on my son! The sub is a ROLLER. Wavey.

@DubMikey - Cool something different :) (like my wip). Hmmm.. that kick is nice, how do you get the scratching effect? Is it jsut a reverse? Holy shit... that's some bass in your face. I think you could work on the melody. Lol is that a 50 cent sample? Shit actually I kinda like the lead melody, it's brutal. Wow this is a roller. Would skank hard to this. Nice nice nice.

-WIP-

Here's my current WIP. Went for something a bit different on this one. Used some old RNB vocals. What do you all think? (Wait til the drop at least). Thanks a lot in advance guys, always love hearing all your stuff. Inspiring. Take care :)

@dougriley thanks for the advice man. I like your track a lot, but it needs a finishing touch i feel like. Some sort of third element needs to come into play around 1:40 or 2:30. As it is its a great track, but it needs a little more to become an awesome one. Not sure if thats some sort of synth or what. good luck!

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback on my previous track. Here's my feedback for others:

@JTL Nice intro, the perc is sounds quite original. Vocal sits well, although to me it sounds panned left too much? I really like the 90's style piano chords around 3:00 and the shift in style with shakers etc. Imo it takes too long to get there though. If I were you I'd try and shorten the intro to that build or vary up the tune around 2:00 or so. Nice track though man, everything sounds to be sitting nicely.

@Burgeamon Cool build up, nice little bit of James Brown? Can definitely here the KOAN sound vibe. I know you've made the snare aggressive on purpose but I'd lower it a bit in the mix. I'd also pan the hats in the intro around. Finish this up man, it sounds really good.

@Gaol Nice eerie intro man, I liked how you gated the vocals. Imo the main fuzzy synth needs more work, it sounds a little too loud although the way your using it sounds nice. The breakdown before the drop also seems a little cluttered, try taking more out to allow your synth to hit harder. As you said no sub, so adding one may clear that up a little. Interesting track though.

@Cornbreadddd Your intro doesn't sound too bad, the hats sound nice, maybe add a deep pad? I like the vibe you have although I don't like some of the piano riffs you have, some shifts seem out of key to me. Overall it's a nice track although the piano lead throughout the whole 6ish minutes starts to get a tad repetitive.

@DubMikey Sounds quite cool and the drop hits. Although your synths sound too generic, they need fattening up a little, and thi might sounds stupid but they sound too digital. Overall it has a nice groove man, I'd work on adding maybe some more perc, like some rides or hats.

@Th3Reindeer Intro is really nice, the wind sample or w/e sounds realyl nice as a pad. I get what your going for, but I'd say the track needs more despite the fact your going for a minamilist vibe.

@dougriley Intro vox sample fits perfectly, digging the drop man. I'd add a full on breakdown in the middle though and go for a second similar drop. Overall sounds nice though man, everything in the mix sounds good.

@BaasDNB Intro remineded me of 80s synthpop, digging the vibe man, sounds kind of like a Nero/Daft Punk hybrid. The main high synth though becomes a beit harsh and grating. I'd work on varying up the track and adding maybe a grittier bass stabs in some parts.

@bri1 Nice sounds on the intro, the drum work is cool. Overall the track sounds quite good but the background padding is a bit loud and your bass needs work imo. Everything needs tieing together to get the track flowing more. To get your waveform type:

Code: Select all

----------------------------------------------------

Anyways, here's my latest it's 93bpm, and again most definitely not dubstep :P

I'm mainly looking for comments about the ambiance and the groove of the track, I've used a lot of little sample hits here and there - is there too much or too little going on? Also - the vinyl crackles - too cheesy? :6:

Soundcloud

Track was mixed on headphones, and very roughly mastered, some things probably sound shitty on other peoples systems. Just listening back on my laptop the master level sounds quite low on SoundCloud so you may wanna whack it up a little to catch the sub.

Any comments, feedback and plays/comments on SoundCloud is really appreciated :)

Thanks. :W:

@ MTHRFNK: Thanks for your advice, I made that tune awhile ago, and I do realize it is a bit repetitive and maybe a little long, but i've always loved longer tunes, even if it's slightly repetitive, as long as it's not the exact same thing over and over without no variation. I do sense what you mean though, I definitely need to incorporate a little more change in. The middle riff build up is actually strangely arranged, I'm using a major mode clashed with a minor mode, though in the same key, it offers a slight bit of dissonance so that's why you mentioned it might have sounded out of key, thanks so much for your advice! I really appreciate it. I'm done with my next tune and it's got loaddds of changes in it, I'm eager to hear your feedback for it. Keep in mind that was my second tune (not justifying lack of skill)

Now on to your tune, I have to say, for the past year or so I really haven't taken any interest into any music other than 140, it just never does it for me or makes me groove out the same way 140 does. However, I thoroughly enjoyed this tune. The melodies really compliment the rest of the atmosphere and paint a very clear and beautiful picture. I see music in scenes, pictures, etc. This tune really makes me think, quite an introspective tune. The only thing I can honestly comment on negatively, is the snare, but that's simply a matter of my personal taste. The sound sounds a little flat or something, not robust enough. I love the vinyl crackles as well. But mainly, I just truly love the musicality and melody of this. To make me enjoy a 90 bpm track just as much as I do a 140 track, says a lot about the tune for me. Great one man, eager to hear more!

I still have work to do on the track, I might try boosting up the snare. It's strange you used the word "introspective", I always though "Introspection" would be a good EP name :P

I'm waiting to hear your next tune, followed you on SoundCloud so I can give it a listen even if I miss you posting it in this thread.
