DrGatineau wrote:yeah i've never heard of dnd, were they like a popular thing that average people knew in like 1999?
nah. not at all.
average people would have heard of artful dodger, luck and neat, dreem team, shanks and bigfoot, so solid crew, oxide and neutrino maybe mj cole but thats about it.
dnd was never a big name in pop (obviousl massive in garage tho). everyone knew the tune tho
in terms of chart success they were more one hit wonders as well really.
i guess similar to mk or clean bandit or something now

yeah, i actually got an odd sort of respect for the way Artwork makes his living. like, many people seem to really hate ghost producing and making music for the purpose of making money, but i don't see anything with it. if you've got the talent, then why not make use of it. and that's not the only way he did it - record label, record store, DJing, etc. he's done more than most in the music industry. and he still found time to benefit the underground scene at the same time.
i've always sorta thought of him as similar to other people who did things similarly - eg Geeneus, Benny Ill, El-B, probably more.

didn't ultra just say he ghost produced Gotta Get Thru This?
also i'm pretty sure he's "ghost produced" for Katy B and other pop singers (not sure if that's really the right term since I don't think anyone really believes Katy B producers all her songs).
eg according to discogs "On a Mission" was basically ghost produced (although they're credited, so again maybe that's the wrong term) by Zinc, Geeneus, Skream, Benga, etc)

in this scenario, it's just called producing lol
also iirc theres an original version by bedingfield and then dnd signed the tune and turned his version into the commercially successful radio edit

lol, ghost production is only a thing when a 'producer' is hiring out another producer to make the tunes and claiming they made the beat etc etc etc
Producing someones track is not ghost production; its how 98% of recorded music has been made.
