Alf: Whatdya mean? Serious... why?
Me: Because I sit next to you for 8 hours a day and I can't think of anything worse than extending that period.
Alf: But it's not like I'd be coming round all the time or anything.
Me: No, you wouldn't.
Alf: *pause*
Me: Sorry, I mean, I don't socialise with *anyone* from work when I'm not at work. Ever. Bringing work into the sanctity of home is a fucking horrible idea.
Alf: *makes dodgy joke to rest of team to break tension*
It hasn't been discussed since, but he seems to not be going for the viewing now...
Wow.
You are truly a miserable git.
Thanks.
Would you really entertain the prospect of the person you sit next to at work moving in next door to you? (The flat in question was directly above mine, one floor up)
Work is work. Life is life. The two should never meet.

I endorse this, especially if you are sitting next to the guy all day, worst is when you are fucking work colleagues and it goes sour.

I wouldn't, but also, I couldn't really decide who lives in the same block of flats as me.

Yeah, exactly this. I drag myself to drinks once every month or so because it's a good way to keep yourself 'known', but I have never understood people that seem to base their whole lives around work.

Obviously I can't physically
stop him.

I'm appealing to his [ropey impression of] humanity by doing my very best sullen teenager act.

The majority of my project live away from Birmingham, so stay in hotels during the week, they fall into this category. Seems like they live for the working week tbh

It's becoming more common (especially with out of towners), putting in 50 hour plus weeks including weekends to show their worth to the management who they also consider friends. Fuck that.

My manager is based in Netherlands. I see him maybe twice a year at most. It's a good way to be.

This guy definitely fits into that, which is the other reason I was particularly against him moving in nearby... every day ends with him trying to convince people to go drinking with him. He'll almost always find some team or other is going out and just tags along, even if he's never met any of them. Comes in every morning looking like shit with some "hilarious" stories about Jagerbombs, people getting into taxis or how annoyed so-and-so's wife was... well, every morning except Monday, because he won't have done anything over the weekend*.
Fair enough if that's what floats your boat, I suppose, but it sounds fucking awful to me.
*Which makes me worry that if he moved in next door, he'd be trying to socialise with ME over the weekend...
