fuck yes, such a good film, i think the lack of scenery makes it all the more involving in a weird way, quality film none the less

dogville is so long and hard to watch. i sort of hate lars von trier.

that's one of his better movies though.

I didn't actually find it that long or hard to watch actually which is surprising because I find this true in general about Von Trier films. (edit: bloody hell didn't realise it was 3hrs long! I did watch it in 2 sittings though because I got interrupted half way through)

The lack of scenery really makes you concentrate on the interactions and the speech which is great, and the lack of walls also adds to the effect of a community that is always watching and judging yet not intervening when they should, as in when terrible things happen and no one is doing anything even though it seems that they can see (if that makes any sense)

yeah i've watched it like 3 times which is more than i can say for any other of his films. the payoff is so cathartic. so prefer seeing that than bjork getting hanged.

another reason why i said we should at least put the name of the movie in text, if you don't want to do the whole x/10 system, so at least we dont get hotlinking errors and whatnot...

tucker and dale v evil was awful tho

yeh i suppose, i guess i'm just bitter that i watched the trailer first and it practically gave away the entire movie...

anyway, i watched this earlier:

Mask Maker (2011)

7.5/10

the reason i score it so high is because it's really really well done for a straight-to-DVD horror movie. it's not torture porn and actually puts effort into being creepy and having a storyline

I'm a pretty big fan. Have you seen his Europa trilogy, particularly Element of Crime? Dancer in the dark was "great" too I think, a lot of them are almost painful to watch which I somehow appreciate. She said it was so bad working with him that she never wanted to do another film, and I think those feelings translate on screen.
The Dogme 95 thing is very interesting as well, there are hundreds of them now, most shit but some are very good.

His new one sounds interesting and might be his most mainstream attempt yet, maybe just in the sense of it attracting a new demographic due to the stars:
Melancholia is an upcoming disaster drama film written and directed by Lars von Trier , starring Kirsten Dunst , Kiefer Sutherland and Charlotte Gainsbourg . The film deals with a variety of people trying to cope with the death of the planet as a large foreign body threatens a deadly collision.
Been done before, but mostly as action films.

Cool movie. Every time I've watched it I'm tired and falling asleep which makes it even more disjointed.

The Prestige. Why have I only just watched this? I didn't even realise it was a Nolan thing. Better than inception but still one of those films that leaves you asking a few questions.
