Dublin is better than Greenock surely?
Well sure, but the whole thing is so vague at the moment.
I might go though, currently we earn 15k POUNDS per annum and work for Manpower (Agency)
If I go to Dublin, I'd earn 24k EUROS per annum (excluding benefits like paid holidays, which we don't have over here) and the company I'm working for at the moment would actually be my employer = career opportunities.
Is Dublin a good place to live? The company will be based in Sandyford (if that's who you write it) which is a good part of town. (I was told)

If Dublin's the place where they brew Guiness then go.
The $11k you earn extra can wisely be spent on Guiness & Guiness merchandising that way.

I may be in the minority, but Dublin is just about the least impressive European capital I've been to.
Nice park, mind.

It's not 11.000 dollars.
It's 24.000 euro's instead of 15.000 pounds.
Confusing huh?

What do you mean?
Just read the wiki article about it: 50% of the citizens are between 16 and 26, which is fun for a 20y/o guy like me, I guess.

Well, I've only been for weekends, but it was just a bit uninspiring to other major European cities that I've been to. There was nothing *wrong* with it, it's just the best thing I remember about it was it's massive park... we spent a large amount of the rest of the weekend trying to avoid stag parties which seemed to exclude most of the major bars/clubs.
I'm sure there's more to it than I've seen and it wasn't unpleasant or anything, but personally I'd consider Edinburgh, Cardiff, Copenhagen, Barcelona, Madrid, Berlin, Oslo, Vienna, London, Bristol... well, quite a lot of places before I'd think about moving to Dublin.
I think if you make the choice that you're going to travel, you might as well choose nice places to go to. Experiencing Britain by living in Greenock and then Dublin wouldn't quite be my recommendation.

Hmm I get what you are saying, the thing is though... the job offer is really nice. Unfortunately I can't choose where the company will move, so if I want a 24k/annum job without applying for it, I can go to Dublin.
How would you compare Dublin to Amsterdam, and I mean, not just yay weed, but as a city?

Where would you live if you didn't go to Dublin? Stay in Greenock, or move back to where it is you're from?
If it's a choice between where you are now, and DUblin, plus more money, with better career prospects I'd say move with them. ALthough, I understand it's not as straight forward as that.
I hate having to think about things like this...I feel for ya bro.

I can't decide. The thing is, there is this course at the campus in Greenock for music production which I would like. I had a chat with some people at work and we came to the conclusion that the course will be there next year, the job offer on the other hand, will not. Plus, I've only moved to the UK about 5 months ago, so I'm not sure if I qualify for the benefits/funding for college.
Back to Amsterdam is not really an option. No way to find a house in Amsterdam (the waiting list is over 8 years, easily) and I really can't move back in with mum after I made the decision to go out of the house > to another country. She wouldn't mind, but I think it will slow me down progressing in the RPG called life, and I'm doing so well in the last 6 months.
Basicly, I can choose between staying in greenock, get the same salary and move to another team - or move to Dublin, earn more, open carreer opportunities (I really like the business we are in, and I can imagine myself doing this for the next 5 years at least). I'm a business investigator for a company called Dun & Bradstreet and I also work on special requests by the customer (VIP reports, lol). My employer is Manpower at the moment and that would change if I'd move to Dublin. The other teams here at the my job are just callcentre jobs which I think are awful.
Sorry for failure typing, I'm tired and cba to read it back lol :<

I'd say go to Dublin. If you don't really have any ties in Greenock there's no real reason to stay. I'm sure there'll be courses of the saem sort in Dublin.
Also moving about still looks good on a CV. Shows you're not afraid of taking risks to further your career.
Being a person that hates doing just that, I'd suggest to any other persion not to become what I have become!! Make the jump bro!!
And they have guiness. And birds with better accents.

I've spent more time in Dublin than Amsterdam so I'm not the best to compare there... I mean, given that you're from Amsterdam and moved away, I imagine you don't just want to go home.
Dublin's not any kind of shithole.. I didn't want to put a downer on it. It's just not in my list of "places where I'd choose to live"... England, Wales, Scotland and Mainland Europe has an awful lot more to offer.
You'll never earn a decent wage working for a "resource provider" like Manpower either... if you've got decent English (which you clearly have) and a fair bit of experience, you shouldn't feel too much obligation to just take whatever you're offered - go and whore yourself around to different companies a bit. See what you get offered.

Thanks for your post Herb, but the thing is, I work for a shitty wage at the moment in scotland.
The team I'm working for however is moving to their own building in Dublin, and I can come without applying (This is a regulation called TUPE, which protects the rights of the employee - it's rather complicated). The pay would be fairly good.
I've looked for other jobs online, mainly looking looking Malta which would be so nice... I love Valetta, they speak english, plus there is sun - what else would you want?! I haven't found any real jobs though, just other shitty helpdesk jobs for dutch speakers, earning a so-so 15-18k per annum.
Basicly, my best option is to go to Dublin. I'm also one of the 4 people that have the knowledge to do my job - So I'd have to train people when the building opens. I'm 20, working for a huge company who just opened a new building, having lots of knowledge about the job (I'm an assistant teamleader at the moment).
I wouldn't mind going back to the dam btw, I just moved out because this job was in Scotland, and I was ready for some sparkle and adventure in my boring stoned/drunk/doing nothing life.

I somehow managed to break the headphone jack on my laptop. When I bought it I got the upgraded three year warranty through best buy with geek squad support in case anything like this should ever happen.
I called the geek squad service center at the nearest best buy and apparently they don't handle hardware issues at the store so I have to ship it to Louisville Kentucky to get it fixed. It would take several weeks...... FUCK THAT. I don't think I could handle several weeks without producing, internet, music and all the other stuff I love.

Why is it that the smallest shaving cut will bleed for hours, yet you can accidentally gouge a proper chunk of hand out with a screwdriver and only get a little smear off it?
