If you say automatic then I pity the fool.
Automatic ofc.
I seem to really suck at planning ahead then when I get to something (say a t-junction) everything ends up being pure rushed, my steering is terrible as well. Think a lot of it has to be with me being uptight/nervous whenever I do a lesson, I'm rarely relaxed at all.
EDIT: I mean manual haha.

So you are battling to drive an automatic?
Gosh
Find a quite street and drive up and down that street until you're comfortable.
Then progress to busier streets.
You need to build your confidence as a new driver.

Its possible to struggle with an automatic?
That sucks bro but you'll get there once you get used to it, if 80 year old grannies can drive a manual you can drive an auto
The hardest part of driving is getting used to the clutch and biting points but its like anything, once you're used to it and comfortable then you don't even think twice about it

Yeah we do this on lessons quite a lot, it's alright then when we're out in busier traffic and there's more variables and stuff happening I tend to fuck up.
Weirdly enough my manoeuvres are all reasonably good, so I know I have good clutch control and stuff, just a lot of it's shit planning for things and nerves.
EDIT: Don't know why the fuck I said automatic, I meant manual

But there's no clutch that he needs to operate in an automatic so idk?
edit: saw your response above.
It's all confidence.

GTA and Gran Turismo should sort you out as long as you buy the steering wheel controller
No clutch but the flappy panels means that you can get used to semi-automatic

I disagree that it'll help you on everyday road driving if you're just a beginner ^
But, one invaluable thing that you'll learn is how the way certain forces act on your car in situations
Learning what causes over/under steer, and learning why heavy braking and turning at the same time will fuck you over, learning to anticipate switching down a gear before you turn in, racing lines etc etc
You'll get there soon enough, just don't get frustrated with yourself because once you can drive you're only gonna look back at yourself and wonder "why did i make such a big deal out of this"

Just tell yourself "if 16 year old American girls can drive, then by god so can I!"

Nah most cities here on the east coast still have somewhat tighter roads

Yeah driving an automatic is like waiting at a bus stop.
Drove this Nissan Juke thing once, uphill starts were a nightmare. Did the exam in a diesel peugeot, not nearly as picky.

Dont take homeboys recommendation of using a video game to learn how to drive a standard transmission. Just go into a parking lot with low traffic and slowly learn your clutch as you're starting to roll. Thats the hardest part about it, everything else is just as easy as an automatic. Downshifting may seem intimidating but its quite simple.
Dont listen to any music, just listen to your engine and you'll be just fine.

I'm 25 and I still don't have my license.
My sister offered to pay lessons and everything when I was 19 but I was a lazy fuck.
Right now, other than lessons being so goddamn expensive, I feel like me behind the wheel is the recipe for a death machine. It's for the better that I can't drive.

the freedom is so fucking nice, and im a lazy fucker too and i could never even be bothered to walk 15 minutes to a shop so yeah
im now even lazier i guess
Plus theres nothing like a nice midnight cruise with a good playlist on if you're feeling down or need to clear your head

I think its the people with a lack of confidence who are the worst, the ones who are always driving too slow and hesitating a lot at junctions and roundabouts etc
I'd take being in a car with a fast/slightly reckless driver who I know has the skill to look ahead and anticipate and has good car control over a slow/timid overly-cautious driver
but thats just me

Yeah man but just going to the track days once in a while makes a driving license worth it.
Liam - This is from a guy who totaled a 90hp diesel mercedes so take it as you will - just get comfortable in the car. Don't grip tight around the steering wheel, don't straighten your back too much, don't straighten your arms like you're 1m from the wheel, let them hang naturally. Listen to your instructor, he'll help you develop your reflexes. priority = downshifting and taking a quick peek before going ahead ; 50kmph limit = 3rd gear and 30kmph limit = 2nd gear so your engine starts to protest when you're going over the limit. It's the little things really.
Edit: also look up car mechanics videos on youtube about engine, clutch and transmission, steering etc. It definitely helps to know what's happening under the hood when you're behind the wheel as you'll feel more in touch with the car, you'll be smoother during uphill starts etc and it'll bring a lot of confidence
