How am I being shown up? I'm attempting to defend a schoolgirl who's performed an incredible feat, has been tested to the best of the Olympics abilities and is still being bullied by people who had never heard of her a week ago.

Her blood samples will continue to be tested for 8 years, so the likelyhood is if she did cheat, she will be found out eventually. In the meantime, I think it's probably nicest to let her have her glory moment.

I realise this is an immensely controversial viewpoint!

But, carry on however you wish. I'm sure picking on a little girl is making everyone's day better. I shall retreat in case my posts start to exhibit signs of thesaurus misuse.

I agree with not accusing Ye of cheating but you keep stressing how young she is. I don't know why but I don't think accusing a 16yr old girl is wrong. Everyone sporting at a high level will have to deal with people not liking them. If you want to perform on a high level you should just deal with it. It is inherent to (top)sport.

She didn't she went quicker than an athlete that slowed down to win the race> His was hardly the quickest freestyle in his race he just already had it nailed.

There will always be a degree of cynicism regarding exceptional performances but at some point someone is going to have to leave it to the authorities or stop watching. The coach that called her out was a disgrace.

She would be the first Olympic calibre athlete to gain 4 seconds in one year between world and Olympics ..... except she gained 7. The greatest swimming growth the world has ever seen came from a 16 year old female

Equivelanys would be USA winning the world cup, great Britain winning the gold in basketball, Greenland winning beach volleyball, etc

We're discussing a current event in a thread specific to this type of current event.

Its not like I'm taking a rock with a note attached saying "give the medal back whore!" And throwing it through my local chineese food establishment

Sadly, this exact scenario will probably play out somewhere in rural Alabama or something.

(PS: aside from the recent scandal seriousness, this is the most entertaining thread in a while... :6: )

It's arguable that a 16 year old female is exactly the demographic most likely to display that type of growth. It's also possible that the very nature of the event has her with some very specific gains on weaker strokes. There's also the different transitions between the strokes so I can see how it would be an event open to pretty significant gains.

Now I'm not pretending to know enough to say with any degree of certainty that she's clean or not. The thing is I don't expect anyone vociferously suggesting she's not to know enough either.

Yes teenagers see drastic gains. But its not from 14th in active world to greatest human ever.... its more commonly going from 125th in the world to 30th.

A year ago this girl was not good enough to qualify for this years final heat.... now she's the greatest female ever at this event. All I'm saying

The rate of growth ignores any sense of progression.... which in sports worldwide is a sign of funny business
