Question: Kong has been doing me in lately. I have a crash cymbal loaded up that came from a kong hip-hop kit and it hits on the first beat of every four bars. It sounds just fine and dandy with a nice long tail when I solo it, but when it is played with other drums, the next drum to hit cuts off the tail of the cymbal. What the hell is going on? When I started filling in my drum section I started with a preset kit, then started changing certain samples to my liking. I have Kong wired to two Redrums for sequencing and there isn't any funky CV business going on besides GATE IN's from kong wired to GATE OUT's of Redrum for sample triggering.
Anyone else experienced this?

The two pads are connected in the mute group. In the right screen, for every pad, the mute buttons "a", "b" and "c" should be unticked.

Thanks, must have been something that carried over from the kit preset.

on the right hand side of the screen. I translated that too literally

But you got what i meant, i presume
i love kong. It has so many possibilities.

wired with redrum it is invaluable to me. It helps me get my ideas out quick and consistently every time.

I learned from my Sound producing course that if you apply less then 300ms delay (in a digital synthesizer) or 60ms delay on an analog synthesizer that it will fatten your sound insanely.
In other words, it will widen your sound, making it more like a wall of sound.
However, when I do this in reason (adding about 250 ms delay) I get a harsher sound, it's actually delay'ing.
(the human ear can't detect delay under 300ms as far as I learned)
Are there any other nifty tricks like this to fatten a sound?

unison? saturation, layering.. verb. the delay thing can work on certain sounds. its just another case of what you read vs. what you hear, keep trying it
you could try making a couple of delays on different sends and mixing the signal into them

You can make your sound wider by duplicating the track panning the original track left and the duplicate right and nudging the duplicate one off the grid by like 50ms or something. its basically fake double tracking and it gives a nice wide sound

What sinestepper said is a real useful technique, especially for consistent sounds rather than one shots or stabs.
What i do a lot too, is split the signal, and mix the dry signal with a chorus'd signal (with thors chorus, that one's awesome). I usually put a stereo imager to widen the chorus even more before i mix them together. Then make sure you monoify the lows.

Won't this take up alot of headroom?
It does work tho, used it before (except for the panning which sounds logical now) but does the rest of the instruments still have space to breath?

Quite on the contrary, it creates headroom, since you get them out of the mono zone

And if you don't pan them you'll get horrible phase problems.
That being said, 50 ms is a bit much though, i usually do 20.

Off topic- but in topic in relation to reason...
Am looking for a collb on some 98bmp om unit/kromestar style vibe
Check out my sound cloud for tunes.
Some deep atmospheric vibes am looking for
holla at me if you fit the job!

ALright, so one thing i'm struggling with in reason is making reeses. I'm not talking about the pendulum dnb reeses (which are just detuned saws) but about the ones that form the bases (not basses... well, also) for heavier dubstep sounds like excision. Or the really growly ones like feed me uses all the time. anyone got any tips on that?

Yup
Start with detuned saw waves.
Then use a combination of effects send and the splitter merger device to split the signal off for processing by loads of Scream 4 distortion devices, filters, & FX etc.

I struggle with reese's too in Reason. I have a decent reese patch.. but it's too unpredictable (does that mean i should resample?)
If anyone wants to share reese patches I'd be glad to swap mine for another.

Id rather sample some decent reeses from a 12" record than try to make one using software personally.

Reason 6? didn't know there was one. Reason 5 must have been shit for them to bring out 6 so quick.
