there's quite a few ways to go about resampling. i'm not going to go into how to use fx for resampling, that's a whole other beast. but i can help you with the routing aspect:

- say you have massive loaded up on a midi track and want to resample the bassline to a new audio track. first thing u gotta do is open up the 'in/out' tab, which is a little circular i-o button, and is near the master volume and crossfader.
- on your massive bassline channel you want to locate the little white "audio to" box, which by default is set to output to the master channel. change the output to a new audio track, which we'll call 'audio 1'
- then locate the "audio from' box on your audio 1 track, and change the input to "massive". so now you should have the output of massive routed to the input of your audio 1 track.
- arm the audio track by clicking the little record button next to the tracks volume slider. this enables recording to the audio track.
- now what i do is click the play button on my bassline clip, hit the spacebar to stop the clip while still leaving it activated (you'll see a green play triangle in the clip but wont hear any sound). then just click any circular play button on any clip within the audio track and you'll get an audio recording of your bassline.

from here, the resampling posssibilities are endless. you can create a frequency splitter to add subtle fx to certain frequency spectrums, or you can just record different clips of your bassline to audio, each slightly different than the rest, resample, etc

another thing you can to try:

duplicate 1 bassline clip about 5-10 times, throw them into their own audio track in arrangement view, and use fx on each, or make the notes of one clip an octave up...basically just experiment....then use volume automation, envelopes, and chopping out parts of the clips so you have an interaction between the different clips. hopefully this makese sense....if not, do a search for "tom cosm glitch drums" and you'll see exactly what i'm on about. if done right, this can create a lot of glitchiness and movement to your parts without the need for resampling. of course, resampling the output of these 10 clips and mangling it further can give even wilder results.

hope this helps! and hit me up if you have any more questions.

thanks for that mate that was a solid response, explained everything perfectly... ive got all the channels working with the certain effects etc, just wondering what would be the easiest way to add an LFO to the resampled audio?

drop it in sampler

sweet thanks mate, one last thing when i have created my mid/hi in massive for some reason the sound changes every couple of bars randomly to either a higher pitch or a lower pitch its very odd would there be a reason for that maybe a setting in massive?

you can link an LFO to almost anything in sampler...and even have 3 LFO's going at the same time.

^ yup

or just download an lfo vst!

Anyone want a laugh? I finally figured out how to route Operator's LFO to its filter. :P

Amazing what a little looking around can do.

Question - I have a loop in sampler, but the end bar has a bit that I want to just silence or fade out, but not delete - so it still loops properly. How do I do that?

I would say edit the sample volume before you bring it into sampler.

I thought someone might say that. The problem is the loop is part of a whole song and I spent the best part of an hour adding and dragging markers just to get it to fit to the beat properly! I suppose I could add Glitch to the channel and silence the last part or reverse it or something, but isn't there a built in ableton thing that will let me silence/fade the sample?

clip volume automation of the sample thus getting rid of the extra bit you don't want then you could flatten that and reinput that into sampler.

Hello... I have been using Ableton for a while but there is something simple I dont know how to do...

How do I listen to the notes that i am clicking in the sequencer? IE, when I create a clip, i write in the notes, how do I make the notes play when I click on them?

Click on the headphones, when they turn blue you can hear your notes.

I was wondering what is the easiest/quickest/most efficient, etc. way of layering samples quickly. I wanna layer 3 snare samples and it seems like there must be an easier way to do it than I am.

No ones addressed this yet. I'm sorry I can't help too much with this one. I literally bought massive yesterday; I'm just learning it. I've always used sampler. I would assume it is a problem within Massive or a problem in the link between Massive and Ableton. I have only had similar problems when using a midi controller that had a corrupt connection to Live due to connecting it once Live was already running. As I would play in one octave it would jump around different octaves randomly. I wouldn't know how to go about fixing a problem in the connection of a vst considering Ableton must be open in order to run Massive.

throw your 3 snare samples into a drum rack and layer the midi notes in the step sequencer

are you using cracked software? and by that i mean either live or massive? are you using a demo?

if you're using legit software, it could definetly be something within massive. check for any fx or lfo's that may be on massive or your tracks in live. check your routings to make sure nothing funky is going on. after you've resampled, make sure to revert to a normal routing scheme (basically, each track that has content outputs to the master) - what im getting at is that you might have a bad routing that's causing feedback loops or something. lastly i'd check your clip envelopes to make sure you didn't accidentally draw in something weird.

good luck

Thanks for the tips.

1 question

When you resample do you resample the whole bassline (ex. a four bar bassline) and then tweak it or just the bass patch sound and create the midi notes in sampler? or are both ways just as good?
