Change it from quarters to halves, remove most advertising and interval bollocks and reduce all down time between plays to 5 seconds max, then it might become watchable

Reducing the time between plays to 5 seconds would be impossible. You wouldn't even have time to run back to the line of scrimmage in 5 seconds, let alone line up in the correct (and legal) formation and get what is about to go down.

When watching it, I used to think a 1 minute clock running down from the end of the previous play was long, but when you play it, it rarely seems like enough.

Sorry mate, I didn't mean to offend. It just doesn't seem to have much structure and its a bunch of guys fumbling over the ball. Plus they do this weird, hold the ball out with straight arms, run 20 metres, then kick.
