In all honesty, those guys are usually fucking nutz. They've been excluded because they are fucked in the head. Usually. I've a career of inviting these types of people into social groups, and it has always ended badly.

Regardless, as Pedro says, even the biggest introverts over here have friends at school. To have no friends to jam with at lunch is not something to be taking the piss out of. Can you imagine for even a second how utterly soul destroying that would be - not having the social skills (potentially from a fucked up/sub par upbringing for a start) to make friends and/or not being able to understand why, as a human, a social creature, nobody wants to spend time with you. Jesus.

i dunno, i was popular at school but i never shunned anyone and always made time to hang out with people (even if they were considered "losers")

well obvs i'm not saying it's alright to laught at him or whatever. just saying that it's not necessarily the other kids' fault for shunning him.
and yeah, at my high school even the weird kids had friends as well. but they were usually just as weird. and total downers. did not want them around all that much. i mean, yeah, they had a shitty upbringing so they found solace in whatever niche interests they had (like metal, games and, later on, neonazism), but that doesn't mean you can't make and effort to "fit in".
