You shouldn't judge The Tunnel just on it's synths, the percussion is fucking rad.

I'm not as impressed with these Mala in Cuba releases as I thought I was going to be. I have a bit of experience playing Cuban percussion and thought it was wack when Mala referred to a "congo" drum in the video. It's Conga!

Also the hi hat part in Calle F sounds backwards to me. Maybe the original percussionist recorded it like that but traditionally it should be played with the last half of the bar first...makes sense?! whhhhut

I don't dislike The Tunnel, it just wasn't what I was expecting from 'Mala In Cuba'. Calle F is more what I was expecting I suppose. Like I say, gonna wait to hear the whole album.

I get what you're saying, and I know you expect more since you're an actual Cuban percussionist, but this project probably wasn't ever planned to be dubstep and cuban fusion. realistically, it was always going to be dubstep (with cuban influenced beats)

Yea man I think I got the wrong end of the stick to begin with. I was really hoping for Mala to step far out of his comfort zone and produce some really interesting stuff that was totally away from the 140 scene. Listening to Calle F and Cuba Electronica got my hopes up for something like that but not sure how I feel about the Tunnel. The percussion samples are cool

I thought this project was going to be stuff that Mala had composed and then got recorded by Cuban artists but it seems like he's gone the other way around. (which is obviously totally OK too! I'm just the listener)

It seems like in recent times Mala is kind of stepping away from DMZ in some way. System doesn't seem to be promoted with any DMZ affiliation, also the fact this is not on Deep Medi seems quite rare for Mala to release not on his own label.

I REALLY really hope that all the musicians recorded on these samples get the full credit they deserve, they are truly amazing musicians and in a country like Cuba it is very hard to get international recognition, I hope they make a fair bit of dollar out of this too. Would love to see footage of Mala in the studio recording these guys too

Regardless of my thoughts I will most likely buy the LP just to have as a collectors thing as it is the type of thing that doesn't come out very often!

I'm glad Mala is doing other stuff than churing out carbon copies of the DMZ/Medi stuff.

He is a producer more than a musician, his best work is always taking sounds and turning them something special ("more heart than head" was what someone said i think). Alicia and In Luv being the pinnacle of this.

And compared to the direction that Skream/Benga etc are heading.... Thank god Mala is going in this direction.

Yea man, Alicia is probably my favourite Mala track if not my fav Dubstep track ever

the two tunes that were released the other day sound a bit boring, hopefully the album will be a bit better

also, please tell me one dubstep album that contains a tune on the vinyl version, which has been released as a vinyl single beforehand.

I really like the second part of the tunnel, bassline is a bit too standard though.

Right, well of course everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I just find it odd that the response to it by a lot of people on this thread is not as large as I thought it would be, considering that it is, in my humble opinion, HUGE.

It doesn't sound like Mala and sounds poo IMO. Infact it might be my least favorite Mala tune, each to their own tho
