Less CPU than using multiple inserts and is easier to affect multiple synths as a whole

some devices don't have dry/wet's. Distortion, filters, stereo imagers, vocoders, compressors. Especially parallel distortion and compression is really useful.

I just recently Started messing with the wave tables in Thor and learnt that automating The position knob yield some pretty sweet results, can anyone shed some light on what is actually happening when the position is changed?

Look up wavetable synthesis on Google or Youtube to learn more about wavetables! ;)

But essentially it just flicks through a stack of photo's and plays the sound/waveform in whichever 'photo' is selected using the index position control.

Each wavetable has a certain number of waveforms in there. The position knob sets which waveform is being played. Now, if you turn the x-fade knob off, you'll hear that very clearly. What that knob does is, it fades one waveform into the other so the transition is smooth.

So sends are easier on the CPU.. nice. considering my rig is a Pentium 4 i ought to utilize

Well, isn't it obvious that one reverb sent to different instruments is less cpu eating than a reverb for each instrument?

As reason isn't too hard on your cpu, the reason i use send effects is to glue the instruments together.

but i like having different reverbs because a lot of times (in my experience) it will require so, i guess if im ever in trouble CPU wise (which happens kinda often) i should go to sends

Thinking about buying the disco school refill has anyone got it and like it?

pretty similar to massive if you've worked with it at all. The left most knob in each oscillator in massive is more or less a wave table position knob.

My questions:

When creating a mid range bass in maelstrom, do you guys (if utilizing MOD A to change wavetable position) synch the oscillation, or keep it unsynched and sloppy for one hit kind of stuff? Obviously it depends of what you're going for, but what's the general consensus? Also, as of late, whenever I sit down to produce in reason, I find myself going through the same kind of processes each time. Anyone have any suggestions for CV usage on maelstrom? Just something to spark some inspiration and keep me inventing new ways of using the synth. Thanks!

Malstrom is a beast which should be contained in a combinator. Then you can route the Malstroms Mod CV into the Combinator Roatary CV In and get funky assigning each roatary to multiple Malstrom/effects unit controls ;)

Just whatever sounds better man. I usually use the simple motion knob.

And why would you stay within malstrom? The beauty of CV is that you can combine ANY device to any other. Sometimes i find it interesting to make a sequenced pattern that just plays by pushing one note. Just by CV. A friend of mine made a really cool example of that, and it gets the inspiration going plus it's really really fun.

How do you set cut off points in the Redrum? ie, when close hat hits, open hat closes

If you look at the bottom left you'll see something that says 8 & 9 exclusive or something to that effect. click that and it'll mean that 9 will over-ride/mute 8 when played.

aha! got it, cheers. I knew it was possible but didn't know what the damn thing was called to even google it.

What is this actually called?

i find it easier to just set the decay mode to the little block instead of the little triangle. That means the sound will cut off as soon as the midi note triggering it ends.

does that work if ur writing on the sequencer too or does it only work with the notes drawn to the length required?

Not sure if that would work right if you wanted to get the classic sound going with roland hats

or you could do it like that :D

but....that way it has no effect on the redrums step sequencer only the piano roll
