as for improving it - thats a hard one to comment on as i like bigger sounding drums but that probably wouldnt suit what you are going for, you could maybe try some little tricks like having delay and reverb on a send, routing individual drum hits to it, and then automating the send amount to make it a little more 'dubby'

also it might be worth trying to dirty the drums a little with some subtle bit crushing or distortion, give them a little more character instead of being so clean.

bit of vinyl crackle might suit it as well
Ah sorry, think I misunderstood. Thanks for the tips.

I'll give some of your stuff a listen when I get home :W:

That's not feedback. Why is it bleak? What do you suggest I change/add to make it less bleak?
Lmfao.
I get why he described it as bleak, it's very sparse, monotonic and melancholy :mrgreen: But that suits the style of track it is. Imo it needs something more than the droning pads, the track seems a little too empty and it feels like you're trying to compensate by using the pads too aggresively. The perc and sound fx are nice though, although they would probably benefit from large reverbs and delays every fw hits, also think about panning of elements :W:

do you mean another perc element in general? cause i thought about maybe chop the vocals in the old fashion way for some additional groove after the where introduced in the faster bass part after that but i will see if i can find a good tambourine shot and then the occiasional one shot in a bar or grooving alongside the other hihats
mthrfnk wrote:@BudSpencertron: This shit is fresh. So nice, the reversed vocals work well. Bass is deep and crisp. Tbh I'm not a fan of the plucked instrument - it's too loud, I'd prefer it if it were more of an ambient instrument rather than a lead. Where are all the vox from man, sound crazy! Drums are coming through nicely. Doesn't sound too fucked by soundcloud btw. Not really sure what else to suggest :h:
thanks yeah i might try some other sounds out really cant tell anymore where they where form my brother sampled alot but the indian one is some indian song haha if that helps

It's a SUPER short clip, but the reason for that is because I want to fix this problem, not deal with it until I finish the track, but I am having a problem with my supersaw and my plucks clashing and fighting for room :'( It's like no matter what I do, they keep fighting >.< take a listen and let me know! Also, other than help with that, just feedback on it in general would be nice(: what you think about it as a whole.

Nice track man, dig the vocals and the backing synths. Have you tried sidechaining the plucks to the supersaw, so that every time a pluck hits an EQ on the supersaw ducks very quickly at the frequency of the pluck?
Thanks for all the feedback guys!! and WOW :Q: that's a great idea!! I'll def test that out! and @Darj Thank you for the advice!(: I have just had huge problems in the past with making my tracks too high-endy so I'm trying to get on the right track with that >.<

@brothulu: deep vibes man :D everything sound nice and clean! I think a subtle, airier pad in the very beginning could help fill it up a little more, just my thoughts !
@ sparky: very sick man! like mentioned before, the super saw should be sidechained to the plucks, with a quick release, also you should eq a couple frequencies out of it for the snare to breathe more, try checking from the 200-300 hz range spectrum of that snare to see where its hitting the hardest, and take that lil bit out of the saw
@mthrfunk ( the first track in your sig) Very chilled, house feeling, liking it a lot! I think the pluck could use with just a tiny bit more colour, maybe layering it with the same thing an octave higher, but like 5% as loud as the first one, to make it a little brighter, if you like it how it is now, thats cool too :P

Soundcloud
Heres my New wip, while working on another track's intro I got carried away and made this :6: all thoughts appreciated :) any ideas for the drums, or variations of anything would be great! Thanks!

holy f :q: k - very awesome. sounds reaaal good.!! no complaints, just love. cool melodies, dope drums, heavy wub wubs.

@mthrfnk
very nice prog house tracks. i particulary liked the first one! good work

@budspencerton
that second track i liked. reminds me of some uk garage / groove armada style. nice one

@brothulu
nice mellow stuff here - a bit too repetive for me though.but overall mix sounds good!

@djcappa
liked the first one best, cool and creative work! but the dubstep track sounds a bit too random , waaaay too many "skrillex sounds". make something of ur own, sounds like u got the skills!

My WIP:

Builds are a bit off, too ear fucked to fix it after many many hours in the headphones ..

@Brothulhu - so dark and heavy, yet light and delicate. nice. the mix sounds great too. Not repetitive at all imo.
@dj Cappa - super chill, I'm digging that pan flute! I was wondering went the percussion were going to drop, then it hit. nice!
@Sparky - high quality business! omg. Maybe sidechain that pad? nothing wrong with this one

First off the idea of the thread is to give 3 pieces of feedback to other people first :W:

As for your track, I don't want to sound like a dick but it lacks both musicality and originality. The song is so monotone, the same sub note seems to be consistently playing which actually makes it hard to listen to. The percussion is ok, at least its clean and clear, but there's so much more you could do with it. The leads are also a tad monotonous, the second higher pitch lead is a bit agressive - perhaps tame a few of the higher harmonics? Try and improve the musicality of the track and also vibe it up abit with some atmosphere, perc one shots and maybe vocal samples.

@Sparky
Even tho it's short, it's enough to set up a mood, and I really dig the drums. The high pitched vocal suits well too.

@dj Cappa
I feel like some light djembe growing in the first part would be nice to spice things up.

@thrillion
I'm not super found of the reversed kick before the snare, it sounds weird imo. I enjoyed one of the drum pattern, the one that goes like kick _ kick snare _ kicksnare _ kicksnare. ahahahha
The female voice seems to go too high or too low sometimes. Did you add pitch modulation on it ?

@Illusive-Music
I liked the growly bass sound, but I think the rest of the track doesn't really fit. I don't think it should underline the high-end melody, but the contrary. In other words it deserves to be louder :D

Here's my WIP, which is a remix of Kdrew's "Bullseyes".
I just noticed there's something wrong around 0:53, like a filter automation mistake or something, pardon for that but I can't correct it and reupload right now.

I'm really new to the production business, so don't be afraid to be harsh on the criticism, because I really need it to go forward and improve.

@brothulu beautiful mixdown, clynamics are present! love that piano intro, maybe add some reverb drums to make that fit in with that "far away" sound everythin else has going on. ! :)

@dj cappa vocals sound so great! wow i love the drums! sound so ethnics, very well put together! love the backverb on the vox! amazing work

@bferg lol this is awesome, so simple but groovy! but yo gotta throw some hi hats in there bruv

@faare hi hats are a biy loud in the intro, very good for first starting out though! well written and arranged! great melodies also, just gotta work on your synthesis some and your good!

heres mine, i slapped a compressor on the master a bit too much but ill fix that come around soon! :W: :W: :W: :W: :W:

@RandoRando
That is seriously heavy! But this is something i rearely listen to so i don't know how to comment on much here.

@FAARE FACED
The drop doesn't really fit. You should work the synths a bit more.

@dj Cappa
Nice prod, some more focus on the vocals could help. And a little less of those flutes mabye..

I Posted this the other day, but i have improved the mix and done some changes in the samples.

Thanks for the feedback everybody, it's helped a lot getting other peoples perspectives on it. I'm working on getting the drop to gel with the intro more and have tightened up the drums. I imagine i'll probably post again if I get stuck with it later on. Cheers!

illusive-music: great vibes here. the fading wobbles around 1:17 are some of the best Ive heard in a while.

alexandercunningham: the atmosphere is great, but around 1:30 it started to sound a little muddy, maybe too much bass.

RandoRando- around :55 it gets a little messy. The arrangement, not the sound design. I think your sounds are well defined enough to where you don't need 3 synths playing on top of each other, I think you could pull it off with one really nice patch.

Faare Faced- Sounds really good. If at :53 was a mistake, I'd stay with it. That pause worked to your advantage. Also, I would take a look at the mixdown/mastering thread, might help with some of your issues.

heres my current WIP. It needs something, but I just cant tell what. I've tried a few vocals over the top, but with the changing tempo its hard to find something thats good in transistion. Any advice appriciated.

Eaaaasyyyyy..

@lightshaper Love the synths they sound HUUUGGGGGEEEE think the kick should be turned up slightly and maybe make the drums more punchy is well

@Sparky Nice vocals i can hear a kind of skrillex vibe going on there ;D love the rev cymbal befor the snare hits :)

@Brohulhu Bit Empty bro :S maybe try working on the drums making it more intresting or putting another synth in

@Bferg333 Love the synths and the automation :) maybe make the drums more intresting

@FAARE FACED Nice quality drums are sikkkk but i think it lacks rythm

ANY feedback will be apreciated :) my new remix of pow 2011 :) and instrumetal for an mc
