I thought the Hangover was so weak. Like why didn't they just make the movie of them doing all the ridiculous shit and just call it The Intoxication, instead of doing everything in flashback detective mode?

straw dogs remake isn't as bad as people say. it was unclear how bitchmade the dude was in the first one so most people missed the point. this one communicates how sumner brings the violence on himself with a little less subtlety.

also saw rise of the planet of the apes and it was crazy dope

Pointless remake, the original is just perfect the way it is.

being mad about remakes is such a boring knee-jerk reaction.

Plus the new one is a prequel, not a remake. I thought it was ok, a bit of fun, wouldn't watch again though. The best bit was just seeing how gross they could make the monsters.

Saw both "The Rum Diaries" and "Midnight in Paris" recently.

Rum Diaries was pretty cool - It's Johnny Depp doing his Hunter S. Thompson impression
again and I wasn't at all surprised to find out Hunter S. Thompson wrote the book after
seeing it. Aaron Eckhart was also in it, as was Gio Ribbisi (who funnily enough out-crazied
Depp). I liked this movie - it had a few laugh out loud moments.

Midnight in Paris was the missus choice and although she didn't like it much, I thought
it was pretty cool. If Owen Wilson wasn't in it, it wouldn't be watch-able, because it's
rather quite a bland film, but the shots of Paris are cool and the premise of the film
is quite funny. I think if there was a book, I would have preferred to read that instead.
Woody Allen isn't as good as he used to be. Some of the "In" jokes are quite clever though.
You'd have to have read Fitzgerald & Hemmingway or have an interest in Dali or Picasso
to get them... Adrian Brody steals the show in his guest spot - which shows the level you're
working at.

The Rum Diary was pretty good. The trailer (which I saw before I went to the cinema) gave it this slapstick comedy feel. Which it certainly was not, a very interesting movie with some funny bits but Depp's performance was A-1. I'd probably wait for a torrent though, wasn't worth the big screen experience...
